Post-reaction notification forum navigation for dummies

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
from what I understand, the issue is not that people can't see their reactions, because when presented with a solution to that problem now the issue is that it takes additional clicks to reach the reaction list

I hate to be rude, but are you trolling us?

I was told that this is a gaslight and that the actual reason why people are mad is the lack of easy way to keep track of the activity

I literally said it was like a slot machine.

I feel like I've been told that, as of yesterday, I quit gambling. After four years of daily slot machine play, gambling is now out of my life. Was I ready? No, and I feel the mental withdrawals from it.

There is a rush. We want to feel the rush from seeing the numbers.

There's no other solution. Something that gave dopamine hits is gone.

Person that actually puts thought into UX here, here's a fix that keeps everyone happy and is far more usable than the current system:
Keep the DM button, add a button with the checkmark sticker in outline form to handle post reactions only, bring back the random thread pull button and drill it into peoples heads to actually use the thing to find new and interesting threads and have an excerpt from the OP's text show up when hovering their mouse over a thread title so there's more to go off of than just the thread name, then keep the bell as the watched threads/quoted posts alert menu.
Do that and you have all the current grey bar's functionality packed into one concise area without removing features on a whim.

I don't understand any of this. What reactions have been removed? Because I still can click them at the bottom of the bar.

Why are people throwing a shit-fit over reaction scores? It was a good indicator to know if you're doing well in the community and goes a long way to the community moderating itself.

Is Null reddit-fying the forum ready for the mass-influx of redditards when they launch their IPO and inevitably go bankrupt?

This is so stupid (not the OP, the reception to the changes)

Literally it's the same exact site, just modified and with no reddit karma. I can still see relevant notifications with this:
Screenshot 2024-03-08 134602.png

It's not better, but it's not worse. It's different. Null can always revert the changes if they prove destructive, it's not the end of the world. Everything will be fine. Give it some time and see how it goes, it's only been a couple days.

note: I am a newfag, thus my reddit karma isn't big. I can only imagine that senior bigger karma users who took pride in their points are gonna be disappointed, sad or even angry. That's the tragedy I am sad about. But point removal doesn't diminish the posters character, those high karma posters will still be viewed favorably by cultured users with or with no points.

I feel a better compromise would have been to have a 24-hour roundup of activity on your posts, something like a single notification saying '69 people reacted to your post in Very Interesting Topic For Handsome Intelligent 6'7" Eligible Bachelors' that would pop at 6am every morning.

It was a bit tedious scrolling through dozens of reaction notifications for the same post, but I don't think this alternative is ideal either, even if it is just one extra-click. I shouldn't have to go to my user profile every time I want to jump back into threads.

Would there be any mileage in a 'Recently Viewed Threads' table on the homepage, similar to the new 'Latest watched' one? Because the two aren't synonymous imo; sometimes I'm only actively interested in a thread for a short while, during a happening. I prefer to keep my watched threads limited to the cows I am really invested in and regularly post on all year round.

I think a recent engagement tab on top of the page that has links to your last 5 or so posts would help a lot in replacing the navigation functionality stickers provided.

This, as well as the OP, is a massively retarded take.

Mainly because this whole Null getting mad at being circlejerked over fucking cheddar led to one of the most retarded things he could've done in order to break the site. Alarms aren't working at all, it isn't just the reaction score but also anything in question, including when someone replies to you, posts on your profile, etc. It doesn't show up as a notification, you actually have to scavenge through several layers of inconvenience to see if the site even updated to notify you some stupid nigger said "haha ur gay" as a reply. And even then, that's a big fucking IF. I've been having nothing but problems with engagement lately because of this.

Not only that, but what the fuck happened to join date and reaction score? Sure, you can hover on it to check it out but now the whole thing looks empty without it.

Look at this shit. So empty and bare. It's had the join date and score on it for what, 10 years? And for some reason it was decided to be removed.

Needless to say, the absolute complacency about the change to the point this thread needed to be made is proof that engagement in the forum is slowly dying. Null is most likely not going to revert it back, no matter how much we piss and shit ourselves crying about it, but then don't start crying about threads dying.

I think KiwiFarms has enjoyed huge popularity and engagement mostly because of the notification and interaction system. It has it's problems (react-farming) but I think that the positives of it, mainly that it motivates people to write interesting/funny posts, outweigh that. I don't know about the cheddar drama, honestly I just thought the site was broken.
There are other means to addressing react-farming than just nuking it in its entirety. It is 2024, if you want to attract people to spend their time posting rather than on TikTok or whatever then you can't just expect people to interact with forums like its 2001.

There's a balance

THE NEW CHANGE IS... LE BAD!
Also why remove joined date in poster's desc?
It's another problem and I don't know why it was done either. I've never seen much "ugh newfag" comments unless a user was clearly shitting up a thread because they didn't understand the site, like what happened during the Barb/Jenke influx.

I respect your stance and see where you're coming from. Getting used to something for 10 whole years only to be ripped away from you in the blink of an eye has got to be infuriating.

I hold out hope that this is just a trial or test period of sorts, we'll see in time what'll happen. Fingers crossed.

I don't see what's wrong with discriminating new users from older ones. There can be some abuse but it's still good to have an idea of how long the person has been around without having to click on their profile. Newfag bullies are going to exist regardless of this change.

Yeah I was saying that the newfag bullying was never egregious like it is in some other communities, so I don't see any reason it was removed

In what way is all that better than just clicking a single icon in the corner of the screen that kept track of all that shit without having to leave the current page?
it's almost like null did this on purpose to make it the most convoluted and retarded as possible

I was told that this is a gaslight and that the actual reason why people are mad is the lack of easy way to keep track of the activity your posts have to know if some old posts of yours are gaining traction again.

Are you telling me that all of it was an excuse to try and persuade Null into bringing back "dopamine boosters" and the gaslight was always the activity monitor excuse?
You are VERY fucking annoying, that I can tell you! BELIEVE ME!

I like to see all of the reactions.

It helps show me what's relevant to people and makes me feel like I'm part of a community.
Same. I don't like the new system. I don't care about the social credit score, I liked when I could get notifications for the stickers that people give (agree/disagree, like/dislike, etc.), it was an incentive to go back to the thread and see the new replies and continue the discussion. Now I barely revisit the threads after I replied, it's not that I don't care, it's just that there's no feedback. I've noticed that I also read less threads than before.
