What was once a lush and thriving world has been devastated for good. The rains that fall upon it may heal any survivors that hide within the ashes, but the paradise before has been lost and will never return with the same majesty.

I've chosen to name this piece "Deafening Silence" after an old song by Machine Head, which is one of my favorite songs to listen to whenever I'm feeling down. The rainy sound effects it opens and closes with conjured the image of a post-extinction environment receiving rainfall after the great fires have burned away. And it was something I drew when I was in another one of my sadder, angrier bouts. I've learned that the best way to deal with feelings of anger and depression is to take your mind off it with creative work. I don't mean using art to lash out at the people who've hurt you---that only attracts their attention and makes things even worse---but instead using it as a way to distract yourself from that pain. Channeling your energy into something productive in the end is far more rewarding than dwelling on your misery.

This Smilodon fatalis, or saber-toothed cat, would have enjoyed its grizzly bear breakfast had an alligator not interjected with its own predation. Now the sabertooth knows what it's like to have something higher on the food chain than itself!

When I was a kid I had this Zoobooks magazine issue with a spectacular illustration of a Nile crocodile nabbing a male lion on the leg, and I wanted to channel that with the alligator's attack on the sabertooth. I have to say I love seeing reptiles dominate mammalian predators this way.

This prehistoric chick and her tame raptor have chosen to stand their ground (or rather tree bough) in the face of this territorial Tyrannosaurus rex.

This is the product not only of half a day's hard work at the desktop and tablet, but also playing a few hours of the new Far Cry: Primal. Doesn't have much in common with previous games in that series I've played, but it isn't too bad so far.

Takhaet, my Egyptian warrior heroine, is enjoying some quality downtime with her little niece Nebet. In the story I've written for them, "The Battle Roar of Sekhmet", Takhaet will have to protect her niece (along with her family's deeply held beliefs) from persecution by the renegade Pharaoh Akhenaten and his head minion, the Vizier Ay.

Tried to remake this old 2014 pic of Jace's adventures in the Danger Zone:

Colours are royally fucked, because I decided to do it like a pro out of ImagineFX: paint in grayscale first and then colour it with some gratuitous abuse of Colour and Overlay layers. Looking back in retrospect, I think I should have left it black and white, but whatever.
