We'll see, but not until I get more training at the very least.

Besides, the stuff I do have are old and decrepit. Nor do they really show how good I am.

I got around to doodling this up while trying to remember what suicune looked like. I didn't remember exactly what suicune looked like, but I did remember there was this story about some barbie avatar thing for some weeb giving birth to one!

Drew this a few days ago. Maybe I should try to make something a little more serious.

Since the secret santa thing's coming up and I fucked up really bad last year, I'm trying to kick my ass into shape so I won't disappoint this year's recipient. If anyone's got general advice to hand out, it'd be appreciated now more than ever.

For now, I'm just using reference. Starting at tracing, then going to work my way up to reference, then memory, then I'm gonna try different poses. Hopefully I can get this all done in a month and still have time to make the damn gift.

Depends on your speciality, what do you wanna specialize on?

There's a sea of tutorials on Youtube that go over how to draw particular characters and do it in an assembly-line way.

I did two other color variations of this, but this one is my favorite. I'm still learning how to not suck at Photoshop.

I have no idea what photobucket is going to do to this . . . they used to helpfully rescale things they thought were too big, but it looks like this one may have made it. If you click on it enough, you may be able to get the whole thing. It's natively 5760x1080 pixels, i.e. wallpaper for my three HD monitors (eat yer hearts out) & was concocted with my program Planet E in three passes; once for the landscape, once for the planets/moons in the background, and once for the stars. It takes Planet E a whole nine seconds and change to generate and render sixty-seven million triangles plus, and that without any hardware acceleration at all; I just paint into the pixel buffer with the CPU. Try that in Java and it will reduce your machine to a festering pile of slag.

Clicky the picky enough times (2) and you'll wind up at the original. I think. Warning: 5760 pixels wide.

Computer programs are art, just in the most abstract medium ever invented.

Art had always been something I wanted to do as a kid. Sadly I suck at it since I am starting out. If any of you guys know beginner guides I would love to know. If anything I am going to do more research.

Oh there's plenty of tips and helpful hints on the internet. not only that, but there's books and classes out there that can teach you the basics of art.

The thing is though, is that you have to apply those skills in life drawings. That and practice as much as you can. Do that, and you'll be producing decent enough art.

The biggest thing is to study your chosen subject like crazy. Always use photographic references when you're learning, don't copy stylized stuff like manga.
A golden rule here would be to learn the rules before you break them.

Keep in mind pretty much everything in life can be depicted with a bunch of shapes and lines initially, like a vague sort of "skeleton" to put your fleshed-out drawing onto. When studying photographic references, note the different shapes that make up a part of your subject, like say the head. I'd recommend a mechanical pencil for sketching with because it's the most user-friendly and you can get a set of really cheap ones for practically nothing. I don't know too much about different lead types but 0.7 mm is the most common (and the one I use). For erasers, you would probably want Staedtler Mars Plastic, they are AWESOME and I cannot sing their praises enough. Don't use cheapo school erasers or your mech. pencil's default because likely it won't be very useful and it wears out anyway. You can also buy eraser replacements if you choose to use your pencil's eraser, but I'm pretty cheap when it comes to that-- I just hoard leads and buy a new eraser if mine is starting to get long (or I guess short, hoho) in the tooth.
If you have any questions, shoot me a PM :) I'm not a fantastic artist but I'd be more than happy to help.
