Was thoroughly traumatized by the last thing I tried to draw, so this time I decided to do some comfy NGE x Gurren Lagann crossover fan art with heavily referenced, borderline plagiarized poses (from this poster) instead of trying to do everything from scratch, and put my focus on improving my lineart technique. After watching some youtube tutorials and marathoning five characters I've definitely seen an improvement. I've also put some focus on trying to make the characters' faces actually resemble the originals, and I think I've done a decent job (especially with Shinji since when boiled down to the most basic character design features him and Simon are pretty much identical).
Shinji is obviously Simon for obvious reasons I shouldn't have to go into.
Kaji is Kamina, he's Shinji's only male role model and also fucking dies.
Rei is Nia, they're both artificially-born naive blue-haired love interests with a weird parental relation with the main villain and also ends up being the harbinger of the apocalypse (and also giant and naked) as a result of actually being genetically derived from the alien cosmic-horror greater scope villains.... Come to think of it, their backgrounds really are pretty much identical.
Asuka is Viral and NOT Yoko - hot-headed rival superpilot who constantly angsts over being one-upped by the weaker, inexperienced protagonist. Also, red.
Misato is Yoko - fun-loving and... well-endowed, swoops in to save the protagonist in the first episode from a giant monster.
Eva Unit 1 is the Gurren Lagann... obviously.
Color-wise, I'll be keeping the colors from Eva (e.g. Misato will still have purple hair) but I'll probably make Asuka blond (...which she sometimes is) to make her look more like Viral.
E: Did a first pass on the colors, it's so satisfying being able to paint with the fucking fill bucket tool. Going to add some basic highlights and shading with a soft brush tomorrow, and also make Rei not look like she's stoned out of her mind. Fun fact, a purple-orange-transparent gradient is nearly guaranteed to make the coloring pop out and look more 3-dimensional than it actually is.
E2: Fixed some colors, added some details, threw together a quick title mashup (....which also helps cover up some of the wonky leg proportions... no I'm not sorry). I actually really like how the title logo came out, haven't used Photoshop in a while and it was really fun throwing it together trying to imitate the style of the GLG logo.
E3: Finally finished! There's definitely some shit I could've spent some more time on (Unit 1 is kinda half-assed if you zoom in and do a close inspection) but I'm really happy with the overall effect.
My neighbours both paint and they're amazing. I was inspired and decided to get a sketchbook and ink pen. I've tried zentangling as I posted earlier in the thread but it's a bit too chaotic, so I thought I'd have a bash at mandalas next.
This is my first one I finished earlier and I'm pretty happy with it. I still need to learn to draw particular designs correctly and find cohesion. I enjoyed the precision and structure involved, and didn't feel intimidated by the blank space on the page when I started. A rare moment of pride where I created something unique and I didn't want to immediately screw it up. Hoping to fill my sketchbook over the coming months because this is fun af.

FUCK AUTODESK MAYA. ALL MY HOMIES HATE AUTODESK MAYA
I'm just animating beginner stuff (a bouncing ball with a tail), but I can't figure out blocking for the life of me and it's messing with my keys a ton because I'm stupid.
Anyway. I haven't made anything good lately. but I guess I can post these here since no one else will ever see them.
EDIT: nope nope I'm embarassed I thought this was decent enough to post
Moar GWARt featuring Oderus. This might just be one of my fastest paintings! I also got a offer to buy almost as soon as I posted it so that's pretty fuckin rad.
Burnout is such a pain. I've been getting no dev or art done and it feels bad. On the upside i am making big progress in Genshin impact and catching up with some other MMO's i'd started falling behind on.
Anyway today i decided to just draw what I could. So here's that. It's not anyone or anything in particular.
This sketch I was fairly happy with despite several issues, what I tried to do next got me so frustrated I ragequit and deleted any trace of the 'sketch' I had been working on, nothing of value lost.
If art isn't going my way i don't try to keep it in play. I just wait until I get that spark back and I can feel comfortable drawing again.
