"Post your Art" Thread

Art is good but you should working on your coloring. It's just bit too even and lacking in contrast and don't guide the eye very well. I would consider stronger shadows on the ground and you might want try using more "colorful" shadows in dark blues and purples.
Good to know. I'm no expert at this art stuff. The upgrade from mouse-and-keyboard to drawing tablet has not been accompanied by any studying up on art theory or tutorials.

I'm now realizing that the mouse-and-keyboard method often resulted in fatigue during the coloring stage, as that was one of the final stages in the workflow and kind of just give up at that point. But it feels like the tablet will enable me to work faster and more efficiently so I can put more effort into the coloring without exhausting myself.

Good point about contrasts. The line illustration often feels like a very convenient crutch to lean on. The people who regularly paint without any line work probably learn real fast about color theory and contrasts.

Line illustration isn't a crutch really but it can fight with more painterly coloring that I assume you are going for. You can do it while looking nice, Blacksad is a pretty good example, but you are usually better of embracing the "fakeness" of line art by playing with the cleaner cell shading. You can also do a mix, stronger shadows with cells and then give extra attention with softer brushes or do a cell shading but the outline is a softer brush. There are so many ways to make it work, all depends what you like and how much and what type of work are you willing to put in.

Still you are right that if you want painting or photography style pictures you are better off with a simple sketch and go immediately for the paint brushes rather than figure out details with line art. It's faster and you tend get better result because tools aren't fighting.

Oh, if you want something that might fast track learning to color, I recommend coloring books. Not necessarily literal coloring books, though those do work, but mainly get some already done line art you can color. It can be easier to learn to color when you are just trying figure out how color this to look nice rather than trying bring out your vision to from the start and possibly getting burned out by the line art is done. It's faster to try multiple pictures so you get routine and it can be really relaxing art exercise as well.

Are there any drawing apps for android you can buy, instead of rent. (fuck you Clip Studio Paint). Asking for a friend.

Why buy when you can just download for free? It's available across multiple platforms. I haven't tried it myself but my friend uses it (the Windows PC version). It's pretty good I suppose if he's sticking with it. There's also ibisPaint which is also available for Android.

Ibis is also rental. I suppose most of these devs think "well adobe can get away with it, why not?"
I will try medibang.

Medibang aka FireAlpaca is pretty good for a free app, I used it on PC but eventually just pirated Clip Paint Studio. Ever since I switched to drawing on an iPad though, nothing can beat Procreate in sheer ease of use.
