Does anyone have any good recommendations on how to understand values? I bought Proko beginners course and there absolutely zero feed back, and I can't seem to figure values out or if im heading in right direction, I tried squinting eyes trick and it looks close but not right.View attachment 7620498View attachment 7620499View attachment 7620504
Try converting the pear image to black and white. It will help you see the shades better for graphite. You also have very nice shadows and highlights but are messing the medium shades. It’s tricky.

Ok i finally found free 30 minutes to answer to this
When it comes to shading its all about mapping them out. At least how i do that
So here we have this pear, not pear-fect but close enough

And now we do all the mapping based on the photo

Note to do them very lightly so you can rid of them later
After that you start hatching

Do 45 degree in both sides and some strokes along the curve of the body.
Dont afraid if you go out of line you can simply work around that.

After the shape of the dae is clear you can get rid of the map line

I do strongly recommend using singular strokes in a line instead of zig zag motions and smearing the pencil

Add a bit of shadow on the edges of round objects and some dark out line on the edges of particulary light spots to highlight them even more.
Hope this was helpful

I wanted to thank everyone who gave me feedback and advice on my early pear, obviously it still not good but I believe it heading in right direction. Im gonna keep doing value studies to get it better and practice on shading.

Looks way better dude
Keep it up, building up muscle memory for this is the most difficult part.
