"Post your Art" Thread

bear2.jpg

This is supposed to be like this lava grizzly bear and boar hybrid thing. It didn't really turn out how I wanted it too since I kind of messed up the lava, to me it looks more like a leopard print *sigh* Even though It doesn't really look like it should, It still looks cool so I'm posting it.

I'm considering getting a drawing tablet, do you guys have any recommendations?

I recommend a Wacom Bamboo!

I started with this and it's lasted me just about eight years until I saved up and got a Wacom Intuos! It's simple, easy to use, and works like a charm. :)

It's just what I wanted :heart-full: Thank you!

What's a good drawing program? I need one with a easy to learn layout because I have the technology skills of a grandpa.

You're very welcome!
I use Paint Tool Sai! It's pretty simple and has a variety of art styles and tools you can use. There is also free programs like Paint.Net (an upgraded of MSpaint), Fire Alpaca (much like photoshop), Gimp (which is much like photoshop and Fire Alpaca). :)

I was thinking of getting a tablet before my USB port was accidentally torn out. I have a bunch of guides and stuff saved as links in preparation, but it's gonna be awhile.

Is it worth practicing using non-tablet things to get a feel for how things should look and be?

I've thought about tablets too... but considering the expense I've been a bit gunshy. My Brother has one (he's the animator/graphics guy) I should ask to use it once and see how it goes.

On the topic of tablets, you'll probably have to practice quite a lot to get used to them. I got an intuos 3 as a handmedown and couldn't for the life of me draw anything decent with it because my brain just cannot comprehend looking at a computer screen instead of my hands when I draw. I do all my digital work on my 3DS instead haha.

Speaking of which, here's my most recent doodle on it.

One last little dump.

Me, waiting for the train, in my "Summer Only" car.

Gratuitous figure drawing, but totally SFW.

Recalling the day I parked my car too close to the pasture fence and one of the horses chewed off the radio antenna (true story yo!) I didn't see it happen, but put 1 and 1 together later, I think it went something like this.....

And finally, I was a member a while back on a website known as "Spamusement" (that's since gone defunct or at least doesn't update) where the premise was simple, take one of their vast collection of Spam Email subject lines and draw a one-panel cartoon based on that. For example, here's one that was inspired by the subject line "Can't Afford Cobra?"

And one for "Open Your Own Restaurant"

[\SPOILER]

As you can see, the need to crank them out before someone else stole your idea/line meant they never got much more detailed than quick doodles. Which, for those interested in starting/bettering their art, are a lot more helpful at getting practice with perspective, posture, emotions and action fundamentals with little to no pressure, it's a cartoon! I really wish I could find a way to get that site back up, we had a great community, but, people moved on to college/jobs/whatnot, and it kinda just withered on the vine.

For some reason "normal" horse eyes look dead and zombie-like to me (you can't see the whites under most conditions) so he got a pair of cartoon ones instead.

They have shark eyes

Oh hey, I sometimes doodle (either IRL or on MSPaint because I hate quality). In fact I recently poo'ed out this thing that's basically the Scarecrow's final costume design in Batman: Animated because what's creativity.

For some reason, I tend to prefer drawing small.

My drawing is the right one, his original is the left one.
He was flattered and offended at the same time when he saw my rendition.
