Also something I've not seen mentioned on this thread despite the NL talk is just how shit Memorial University is. PL but as emergency backup I applied to Mun on the off-chance paranoia that no uni would accept me out of high school. Compared to every university I looked at in Canada I think only PEI had lower standards for getting into a BSc (granted this was a few years back now but I've heard their education got a funding slash since then so their university can't be too advanced for their high school system). They didn't require much in the form of math among other things (their pre-cal requirement was equivalent to my grade 11 advanced functions class), my school dumbass got in after he saw how easy it was cause kids who applied got accepted within weeks, and they gave out quite a few unconditional acceptances that didn't require people to even finish HS to come study (a decent chunk of those I talked to did, including myself for not that outstanding grades tbh). From looking at their first year classes it was basically just grade 11-/12 catchup because their shitty province's schooling system results in kids who don't know the basic foundations of calculus before being told to try getting into a university for STEM (I tutored a newfie girl at the uni I ended up at who was supposed to have been "gifted" but broke down when I showed her a pre-cal problem with two variables and barely understood surface area).

I'm not saying anyone who gets educated at Mun comes out an uneducated idiot, just saying that I don't personally hold much regard for the institution itself and have to wonder if Landsonhiscock managed to overcome his education or if it's the reason for his stagnant PhD
