Damn I feel like a moron. I should have took out a fat PPP loan, bought a bunch of equipment for one of my hobbies, released one YouTube video of me using that equipment, then called it all a business expense.

@gibbslets Fellow show watcher I see.

Nah, be happy that you didn't. The feds might overlook a lot of the smaller "reparations" situations due to the obvious optics, but if you were just some regular guy who thought he could get away with taking $50k from the government for your "new business" that coincidently spent that money on an addition to your home for your "work office" or on a new "company car", they'd eventually be on your ass over it. Especially once they see literally 0 activity following the money being spent.

Even if you managed to make it seem as legit as possible, there's just too many little mistakes that could be made that might end up having them fuck with you and making your life a living hell over it. This isn't even considering the fact that you'd essentially put a target on your back for the foreseeable future in the event you ever piss someone off enough to make a report about you or if you're ever unlucky enough to get audited.

I would just be content knowing I didn't have any hand in what is being called "one of the largest cases of fraud in history" as well as a massive political football that will be tossed around for the next god knows how many years.

POV: You loaned money from the Big Dawg

Even if you had to pay it back it's only at 1% interest anyways. There was literally zero incentive for most people not to commit PPP fraud if you could keep it small enough and not get greedy.

ah geeez doood 1% interest? Best I can do is like.. 7 dollars? 7 dollars a month?
"Good enough for us, FORGIVEN."

I had a client a few years back that took the PPP money and just stuffed it in some investment accounts to earn income. They didn't even bother pretending they were going to keep people on the payroll, it was really just an interest-free margin loan from the federal government to buy stocks and bonds.
