I like to pre-order all my vidya games as early as I can because then I get cool little bonuses I wouldn't get otherwise. How about you guys?

I wait until they're not new anymore because then I can be a vintage retro gamer, and it's totally not because I can't afford to buy many expensive games on my study grant because I need to conserve money for other things.

You can save money on both ends by pirating both games for leisure and textbooks/software for school

I personally find great fun in pre-ordering, canceling my order, pre-ordering again, canceling my order, and doing so repeatedly until I get bored and pass out.

Digital vidya; yes
CD vidya; not most wise

The disc could fuck up and the game itself till its patched or updated or if the shipped CDs do not work properly or there is a fault

If it's one of those games where you know exactly what you're getting into, like say preordering DLC for a game you play or a numbered sequel where they're unlikely to change the core gameplay that much, then it's probably fine.

If it's shit like Watch Dogs...

You're dead to me.

I pre ordered that crazy wuxia ps2 game that has gackt in it. I figured it seemed like a title that could end up tough to find given the limited appeal of it.

I don't see the value in dropping a huge amount of money on a game that's likely going to be broken on launch or overhyped. It tends to be one or the other right now.

I'll pre-order if it's a game I really intend to play but I usually wait until like the week before it comes out and pay in full so I can just walk in, show them my ID, and walk out. Pretty much the only thing I'm gonna pre-order any time soon is Dark Souls 3 cuz I'm gonna console pleb it. :sighduck:

Unless is something I really want or is niche as hell so a limited run is guaranted... I wait. Most preorder DLC is useless in any case and the quality of pysichal goods varies to decent to "Not even China bothered".

I take the totalbiscuit approach. If I want a game so badly that nothing a reviewer might say about it could possibly change my mind, then I'll preorder.
This is my approach as well. Only preorder when I know it's something I will definitely want ASAP, I know it's good, and I'm willing to take the hit if I'm wrong. Otherwise wait for a sale later.

Though that has bit me in the ass before. Suikoden Tierkreis I am looking at you.

i've pre-ordered remasters/reboots/definitive editions of video games that i like because i'll know already if it's good or not. GTA V was like this for me. I waited for fucking years to get that game on PC, and i pre-ordered that shit as soon as possible. there isn't any risk in pre-ordering a game that got released like twice.

otherwise i like to wait until a game comes out so i can hear reviews before buying it. it's the worst when you shell out 60$ for a game and not only is it shit but it's nothing like they advertised it to be. AAA games are especially risky for this type of thing.

DLC preorder bullshit needs to die, no joke. unless its like a cool physical trinket from the game or something, i wouldn't bother with them. all digital items are either: a.) cosmetic stuff that i could just hack into my game if i really want it because it's on the disc b.) overpowered items that ruin the game which i could just hack into my game if i really want it because it's still on the disc c.) underpowered items because the devs didn't even try to reel you into their shit game, which i could hack into my game because it's on the disc but i wouldn't bother

Yup- I pre-order games all the time because I enjoy wasting an extra 30-40 bucks so I can buy it day one instead of waiting a few months and getting it half off. Also, when I usually get these games, they usually just sit on my coffee table for a week or two before i get around to playing them. Sometimes I buy them two at a time so one always tends to get pushed to the wayside, never to be played until the game is usually $20 anyway.

Also, I like to pre-order games to continue to give the game publishing companies the wrong message so they will continue to try to extort money out of the players, continue to destroy smaller dev studios is the pursuit for more money, all the while making games for bland and generic.

I do this because secretly I hate the gaming community and nothing makes me feel like a big man than watching the futile wailing of gamer bros on the Youtube of how the game industry is doomed and their favorite franchises are now dumbed down for the casual player.

Nothing personnel, kid.
