Primetime is an upcoming American crime drama film directed by Lance Oppenheim that covers the origins of the television news magazine program To Catch a Predator, which featured host Chris Hansen confronting adult men who would arrive at a sting house to have sex with minors and typically get arrested as a result.[1][2] Robert Pattinson is set to produce and star as Hansen.

two words for ya role playin' chat-room dude

Trailer is dropping today.
I hope it will be like Nightcrawler

I wonder if it’ll feature legally-distinct stand-ins for iconic preds or if they’ll just use generic made-up predators.

It already looks and feels like Nightcrawler.
Patterson genuinely does a great Hanson impression if he is calm, yet when he is yelling it kind of breaks.

I'm curious to see how they pull it off. The thing about TCAP is that I can't take it seriously, both as some altruistic public service to expose pedophiles nor as a cautionary tale about reckless investigative journalism. The entire show was such a dark comedy that I still laugh at years later. Hell, my fucking username and profile pic is one of the guys from the show. Going the serious route is made even weirder by it having the tone of a psychological thriller, filled with this moody lighting and intense score. Kind of a bizarre juxtaposition between how it's going to portray the show and how it actually feels to watch it.
I trust Pattinson to tie his name to something high quality, though.

tcap has tonal whiplash with some predtors being udderly horrific like the kill-kit guy or the one that brought his kid over and then goofballs like lorney or schumacher with most predators falling in-between

most of the chat-logs are horrifying though with nuggets of comedy sprinkled throughout

My favorite have got to be the predators that the decoys talked into coming in naked (John Keneally and the Indian guy). Fucking John Kenelley actually got got AGAIN by TCAP the next week or something and they filmed him outside a McDonalds, truly comical stuff.

Fucking classic shit
I remember watching the show as a preteen laughing my ass off, like "I wouldn't fuck any of these dudes! Be so for real!" XD
TCAP/Takedown really has that Cohen brothers feel, where its both intense/twisted/halarious at the same time. A recent gem was Hansen interviewing an illegal pedo in spanish and saying "Como se dice SUCK DICK?"

The disheartening thing about these stings is that the predators usually don't do much time. On a recent Takedown episode a guy had gone to prison for strangulation, got busted on the sting and bailed out, was arrested two weeks later kidnapping a 14 year old and raping her in a hotel, and he only got like two years for all of that and will be released next January. Of the free Takedowns I've only seen one pedo get hard time (10 years, I think it was the Disney hotel lifegaurd?), most get like 90 days plus probation and registration. I suppose that's more of a commentary on our justice system than anything, but it does make the show seem Sissiphyian (sp).

My one issue with TCAP/Takedown is the two episodes with 20 year olds meeting up with 16 year old decoys. The age difference should really be 10 years or more to make an arrest unless the person is under 16. They probably shouldn't be using 16 year old decoys at all, that's barely a child and kinda takes away from the ew factor. In like half of the USA the age of consent is 16 anyway. Stick to 12-14.
