Privacy Conscious Appliances, Computers, and Phones Thread

For machines, I would look for anything that can run libreboot or coreboot. Libreboot is just a distro of coreboot that makes it easier to install. LB is run by a tranny mind you. But you can get machines preinstalled with libreboot from them.

There are machines that aren't thinkpads or pre core2 duos that run core/libre boot.

Libre/core boot both use proprietary blobs, I recommend Canoeboot (run by the LB tranny) or GNUboot

Seeking to revive this topic. I need a new TV soon. I have absolutely no choice. Are there any that at least don't include a camera and microphone right in the unit, and maybe I can replace the remote with a non-Alexa one?
Go to your local pawn shop and find one, or use a search engine
10 seconds on bing: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/shop/tv-home-theatre/non-smart-tv
TVs/displays are still made in droves at the very least because there's still settings you don't want that stuff. signboards where smart features aren't desired, even TEMPEST certification for use by the military or cops, etc. You could also meme out and get a projector. Plenty don't have "smart" features and still use IR remotes.

Try using a computer monitor, they are usually better at being TVs than TVs. They can come in some pretty impressive sizes too.

I’m looking into “dumb” phones.
So far I’ve seen sunbeam as a practical flip phone as well as a music player. Does anyone have experience with those?

What are some good recommendations for a “dumb” phone?
I’m more so doing this for reducing screen time, but not reducing my music playtime.

The Alcatel Go series is a flip phone that runs KaiOS, a mobile platform no one has heard of or cares about but apps on it are made of HTML5. It has a 3.5mm jack, has big crunchy buttons for old people, and while it gets wifi and has a browser/gps/etc, you ain't browsing shit on a flip phone, get real

Is there an efficient way to move Google Drive files to Proton? Have a bulk of old documents I’d want to move and work upon and with Proton Doc features I have no excuse to be under the Google guns

There is a way to request a mass data pull from jewgle through your account settings; it generates a few zipped folders depending on how much stuff you have, which you can then download. Since the default max size of a google drive is 15 gigs, it is as easy as downloading them, then just reuploading them.

All phones have a mandatory broadband chip in them that constantly pings cell towers as long as it has any power, that you can't get rid of or remove. But without it you have no telephony and can't make SIM calls. If that's a feature you absolutely need, what the other guy said works well. The Gemini PDAs and PinePhone are just bad enough to make you not want to browse on them, but also good enough to where you can stockpile and play music from them. If you want to trvly cast off the chains of surveillance, you can get any number of wifi-only devices that fit the bill, from old ipods, to pdas, to raspberry pi based hackjobs to small 6" tablets.
