How complicated of a parser are we talking about? AST trees, First-descent or something simple like an FSM?

An FSM probably works. Every header has its own syntax so that can get kind of stupid but the overall protocol itself is simple enough.

I wonder if VHDL would fix him up? Though, to be fair hardware design and software design are pretty different.
