I've heard people talk about the devs adding NPCs but it being a clusterfuck because of their autism. I think if they add them they need to think carefully about what they're supposed to accomplish gameplay-wise and design the complexity around that.
I could be wrong, but didn't the beta have NPCs and they were taken out due to jank?

For amazingly fun jank NPCs try the Day One mod.

The NPC build before they scrapped the game/ were robbed was really bad. I can't remember if it was just that they would spawn in and stand still or if it was that they would run outside of a building and then stand still. Either way all they did was stand still eventually and I dont think there was any interaction between players or zombies with them. I'm pretty sure it was one of the last builds they did on desura.

The group I play with has someone who's also here on KF, so hello, yes, I'm talking shit - not about you specifically, but you know who.

A few questions for everyone, because I want to see whether or not I'm just a weirdo or if I'm right. Firstly - do you guys also play with minimal clothing to prevent overheating/getting cold, and your attack strategy consists of "don't get hit", or do you armor up?

Asking because in all the time I've played B41 and B42 multiplayer, I've only been lacerated once by a zombie, and all I wear is a t-shirt, short jeans, military boots/snakeskin boots and an ALICE rig, with the mandatory leather gloves. Two of my other guys go full armor and have both died at least once since B42; one died last night to a bite. Despite this, I can't convince them that the best defense is just not getting hit and staying light, not putting yourself in a situation to get swarmed.

Secondly: do you guys loot EVERYTHING, or just what you need? We have one guy who keeps looting entire houses and filling our shelves back at our safehouse with useless shit. We have like 5 generators even though we live in the walled-off house in the woods northwest of Ekron, the one with the chicken coop and pig pen. We only need 1 generator, we have the orange-ish one which is the best one, but this guy keeps bringing back the shitty blue ValuTech ones. Is this weird, or is this actually normal and I'm just being a retard?

i don't play pvp so armor has never been a worry for me. if i'm worried about getting bit and for some reason aren't confident in myself, thick jackets tip the scales enough for me to be comfortable.

he's probably used to playing on lower rarities or something.

Island hopping in Riverside. Island hopping being making secured houses out of any suitable building (enough curtains, two entrances, humane layout inside, door isn't busted down) and using them as collection dumps for loot.

I'm a little surprised and disappointed there's no (that I saw) zombie sounds setting. At some point zombie fiction decided, stupidly, that it's too good for the haunting moans of the damned.
This isn't a good example but it's the best I could find after a bit of searching.

Brooks and I swear old movies describe zombies having a LOUD, projecting, moan from the belly that acts a rallying cry. Lets loose, repeatedly, like a siren upon visual contact and draws in all around it as a siren. Too fun? Too horror? Not "realistic" enough? (Science fiction zombies suck.)

My meta strat is "don't get hit" lol.
Ok but for real though , I want to say I start armoring up in case I know there's a horde I'm going to be dealing with and the last thing I want is to get screwed over by the spaghetti code. Only wrap up for the winter and fall since that's the only time you want to wear thick clothing.

Keep in mind that the "don't get hit" part only applies if you're 100% confident on how well you can manage hordes and stamina. You don't really need to worry about protection if you know how to fence fight and avoid fighting indoors.

Secondly: do you guys loot EVERYTHING, or just what you need?
Usually people would advise you take what (YOU) need to survive. Whenever I do looting runs I just mark the houses I've been to in case I need to go back and steal some pipes or wood. By the time you stocked up on food, water, medicine and weapons. Everything else just becomes decoration and free crafting material.
Anybody who just runs around to grab everything they see in the houses are just deranged loot goblins who probably don't know any better. You should probably tell him that you really don't need a sixth generator unless he's planning on building his own house.

I'll never forget the time I jumped in my car with a giant horde on my ass, but I accidentally got in the back seat. No problem, I'm pretty slick with my PZ hotkeys. I'll open the vehicle menu and jump into the front seat.

My car was a police cruiser.

These devs are so obsessed with details, they even remembered the divider in cop cars would prevent you from switching between the front and back seats.

Anyway, enjoy this screenshot from my drive from Riverside to West Point to help my friends who just made new characters.

Needless to say, the car was in pretty bad condition by the time I got there in this nightmareish fog lol

Got bitten outside and wanted to take a load down with me.
Hell yeah, make yourself into a big ol' bonfire and take the zeds with you!

I wish the mod that lets you kill yourself with guns was part of the main game. You can already off yourself with sleeping pills and alcohol, or bleach, or both. Meanwhile, the mods that let you turn guns on yourself keep getting taken off the workshop.

That's fucking gay. The game is already fucking bleak enough since the world will probably never recover and yet shooting yourself is just taking it too far. I already know the devs are reddit incarnate but wow, that's just disappointing to learn about.

If he plays multiplayer often then he's probably used to public or pvp servers, where if you don't hoard everything someone else is going to immediately take it or break it. They had to remove carpentry XP from disassembling furniture solely because servers would be ruined by niggers going door to door in spawn towns and ripping apart every single bit of furniture, even on servers with loot respawn.

In the Zombie Survival Guide/World War Z, Brooks described how the zombie moans could daisy chain and you could have drawn in zombies from miles away. Imagine spawning in West Point, getting unlucky and the first house you try looting has an alarm, a week later West Point is filled with zombies who came in from Louisville. It's bad enough that even melee combat now draws in the entire neighborhood.

Build 42 is overall very good, but I cannot have anything else open like Brave when starting it or it crashesmyPC, and I cannot leave town via cars - haven't tried leaving via running so it may be that I'm driving too fast - or I hit a patch of error texture and it crashes it. Weirdly this doesn't happen in MP so I think maybe my RAM allocation is too low, or I need to bite the bullet and just replace my HDD with an SSD.

Oh and the new lighting is great.

It's a RAM hungry beast, It barely functions on my old 8gb laptop. I can forgive unoptimised jeet coding when it's a small indie team though.

- Cascading

Zombie Moan Loudness
Zombie Moan Synchronicity (do zombies moan in unison, projecting even further)

I burned myself out LOL
Have to give the game a rest for a few weeks.

If I had more than one generator I’d store a second in my car trunk and any additional ones at the gas stations I expect to use, gassed up, maybe one per town in case of death if I wanted to continue the save. I’d have kits set up in safe houses, mostly a few weapons and a can opener.

Any house with two doors and no broken doors/windows (unless boarded back up, point is, no gaping hole) is a safe house with curtains put over every window. But I’d pick one per neighborhood as the safe house to mark on the map and be the local collection point.

Anywhere can be safe and you just have it that there’s known houses to slip between as you navigate.

I haven’t played long enough for my opinion to be worth anything but I haven’t seen any reason to give a fuck about overheating. I’ve spent most of my collective playtime in overalls.

I realized that the reason I do well at this game as a total beginner is that the average person is retarded and it was an extension of how I already live.

I’ve lived my whole life in zero crime environments but always lock my stuff up

Have six months of food (regular potato’s and milk and such rated for six months) stockpiled for financial distress

Have a month of water under my bed, in part to keep the cats out from underneath it if there was something like a house fire (mostly to keep them out from underneath it for putting them in carriers and because it’s free storage space)

Pay rent a month in advance

Keep a savings account for a month of utilities and cat food (what can’t really be paid in advance)

You'll finally have sex one day and lose that superpower.

The jokes on you. I DID have sex once and she dumped me a week later and then got engaged two weeks later and I never had sex again.

And I gave thought grimly about how the day I have a wife is the day I can’t enforce my spreadsheet of every purchase I ever made anymore. Best case scenario is I track her draw like a bank accountant.

I'm starting a run as Carpenter Jesus of Nazareth LMAO
Underweight Pacifist Sleepyhead Unlucky Sunday-Driver
Braver First-Aider Fast-Healer Fast-Learner

Edit: Holy shit he spawned with a Glock in the house
Double Edit: Holy shit he spawned with a good condition car with gas and a key

Triple Edit: YOU'RE FUCKING KIDDING I FOUND A FEDORA RIGHT AWAY

Quadruple Edit: It's wishful thinking but I like to think God does have a sense of humor, that silliness like this isn't blasphemy. I knew I was going to be jinxed when I started rolling 10s right off the bat on everything.

It was HELL. Zombies set off two separate house alarms near me. Suddenly they were everywhere. You try to flee, you draw them from diffeerent places. I ran and ran and ran. I ducked into a storage unit place where at least they were on the other side of the fence, ducked into a unit to at least sleep, set an alarm off. They bust down, from the opposite side, a gate to get at that alarm. I wind up jumping the fence. At one point I jump a high wooden fence into forest and a swarm of like ten of them was a few lengths away from me. I run straight into very thick woods - like, the kind where you're brushing branches out of your face - and have no sight at all - and they were right behind me. I eventually managed to break line of sight, exhausted to the very brink, an got into a house that had a zombie beating down a window from inside, on the verge of breaking it, because a window happened to be open. There were two zombies upstairs in the bedroom I had to put down right as night fell.

I am snjoying build 42 a lot. The muscle strain mechanic is dogshit
I can only assume the devs didn't like the fact that veteran zomboid players can wipe out entire hordes of zeds day one with their meta strats and a frying pan.
Probably the main reason muscle strain was added to put a stop to that.
Oh and I forgot to mention that you can get muscle strain from shooting guns, just thought I'd let you know before you get too comfortable with the muscle strain mechanic.
