Prototype of Nintendo's Dinosaur Planet released

Sorry dude, those groups are all moving a mile a minute and nobody wants to burn even more bridges spreading this stuff everywhere. The group where the actual drama originated from was Obscure Gamers, though its spread through HP, TCRF and, you know, practically every other relevant server.

Ok since we're talking about prototypes, I just discovered that Croc for the PS1 is actually based on the same prototype that Nintendo transformed into Mario 64. It seems Nintendo kind of ripped the prototype developers off. I remember when I was a kid I thought Croc was such a blatant Mario rip-off, I think even some of the textures were identical (like the red cages you can hang on to), now I finally learned it was actually the other way around lol.
I mean it wouldn't be surprising in the slightest if it were true. Croc was developed by Argonaut Games which were the dudes who made the technology for Star Fox and Star Fox 2, which if I remember right was originally cancelled because Miyamoto got mad that it might make Star Fox 64 look less impressive.

Correction this was the first time he ruined starfox, the second time was the SRPG game, the third time was Starfox for wii-u.

Still doesn't beat in number all the times he's ruined Paper Mario though.

He also should have let Dylan Cuthbert release Star Fox 2.

The Franchise wouldn’t have changed much even without the new characters.

I'm still salty that we could've had more games like Assault and fans ruined it because it wasn't exactly like 64 with HD graphics and orchestrated music remixes. Seriously, this is the bulk of the StarFox fanbase and why they're insufferable (the rest are furries who use the games as an excuse to collect furry porn of the characters). They can't even muster up praise for Assault's amazing orchestrated remixes of the best of the 64 soundtrack.

Did people really hate Assault? I can only imagine what the Star Fox fandom is like but the only complaint I heard about it back then was that it was too short. Which it was, it needed at least three more dedicated Arwing levels and a bit more fleshing out for the ground parts. The graphics were exactly what I wanted, did anyone really complain about them? I hated Fox's design after this but here he's just an evolution of the 64 design . The multiplayer music sucked though not gonna lie, but it's made up for by that mode being fun as hell with four people, though I have a suspicion it's a situation like Metroid Prime 2 where the multiplayer mandate took manpower away from the single player.

I've been out of the fandom for a long time. I can't really give any good stories of what it used to be because there isn't really anything of note.

Like @MysticMisty said, there were purist who only liked the SNES and N64 game and anything that deviated was bad, there were annoying kids who's only experience was Adventures, and you had furries just there for the Krystal porn at a time furries were widely mocked online. I guess it was funny seeing them throw a tantrum when the canon ending of Command had Krystal leave Fox and go off to become an emo goth chick.

Unlike other fandoms, the StarFox fandom was good about archiving and data mining. Even the furries just there for Krystal porn had some good content like archives of raw promotional renders and interviews with the voice cast.

I think the downfall of the fandom was due to Nintendo not giving a shit about StarFox combined with the fandom's inability to keep internal drama under control. When one of the Krystal forums closed down, there was a mass exodus to other sites, shitting them up in the process.
