This was on Serebii, seriously, there are lots of lolcows on there, its just nobody ever calls anyone out on anything. I could have been one as well, of course, again, nobody calls anyone out and you fall into obscurity.

So Serebii is a veritable Lolmine?

I only browsed Serebii for any Pokemon info back then.

Yes, it is, but again, nobody every bothers calling out anyone on the internet on Serebii or anything.

Why is that? You'd think with so much potential it would've warranted a few callouts. Do they have dictator admins?

Serebii himself is a lolcow, and a huge douchebag.

I've had the displeasure of having to deal with him on a few occasions, though not as much as some friends have had to.

There was one instance when a guy friend of mine was like "I don't think we can hang out tonight, Joe's raging at me about something." (My response was "tell him you don't have time because you're spending the evening with a gorgeous lady, watch him rage even more.")

Elaborate more please?

Hmm.

Basically, I do work for a Pokemon fansite which is a rival of Serebii. I'm friends with the big guys in charge of the site. Serebii/Joe goes into a rage over OMG U PLAGIARIZED ME if any of the info on our site is too close to the info on his site, and basically during those times the guy-in-charge that he's chosen to sperg at has to devote some time to damage control because Joe's just a huge, insufferable douchenozzle. (Though in the instance I mentioned in the above post I did end up hanging out with my friend, so I think he was just like "Joe stfu" and ended it at that maybe.)

I haven't had to deal with Joe over any "official" business, but there is one instance that sticks out to me. Around the time of Black 2 White 2 prerelease, there was this one Japanese magazine that published an article in which one of the editors described his experience playing through the beginning of the game. This particular editor happened to encounter a shiny Patrat for his very first wild Pokemon, and suddenly it was spreading like wildfire through the English-speaking fandom that in B2W2 the very first Pokemon you encounter in the wild is a shiny Patrat with a 100% encounter rate!!!!!

Of course the source of this misinformation was Serebii and his shitty translations.

I was chatting on twitter with someone completely unrelated to Serebii about how this was clearly untrue and there was nothing in the article that indicated it was anything more than just the editor's dumb luck (I can read Japanese more-or-less fluently), and suddenly out of nowhere Joe barges into our conversation to make sure we were informed that the misinformation on his site had been cleared up. I was like "wtf Joe I don't care I don't even use your dumb site," but I did go to his dumb site to see how he had cleared up the misinformation, only to see that he had edited the news post to say there was a chance of encountering a shiny Patrat as the first wild Pokemon. He just didn't want to give up on that goddamn shiny Patrat! When I pointed out that of course there's a chance there's always a 1-in-8000-something chance of encountering a shiny Pokemon in the wild he stopped responding to me because I guess I had exceeded the hurtful truth limit.

Also fun fact, Joe is related to the Elephant Man.

OH.

I forgot about that one time I wrote a news article for the site I'm affiliated with, I don't even remember what the article was about but it had sources and everything, and then Joe commented on the forums post all lambasting me for writing the article, that it was such a dumb article and no one cared about it, how no credible sources (ie. his site) were used in the writing of it, etc. etc. and I was just like, "Joe, this isn't your site, gtfo."

Yeah, he's a douche.

Sounds like Serebii could use his own thread.

I'm toying with the idea of a Pokemon webmaster thread, because WaterPokemonMaster from Pokebeach is pretty lolcow-worthy too. There was once a thread on 2ch devoted to reporting the guy to Tokyo metropolitan police after he openly bragged about recording parts of a Pokemon movie in the theatre. (This is a HUGE no-no in Japan; while theatres in the US have announcements before a movie to be quiet and not disrupt other viewers, theatres in Japan instead have announcements that IF YOU BRING A CAMERA INTO A MOVIE THEATRE YOU WILL GO TO JAIL.)

Lulcows in the pokemon fandom? I'd never believe it. Next thing I know you're going to tell me that I'm going to see weardos when I go play MTG with my homeboys. :tomgirl:

Bring it on Himawari! The lulz must flow, he who controls the lulz controls the universe! Or something like that...

Yeah, Hima, you make the best threads here. :heart-full: :julay:

Gosh, I don't know if it's really a good thing that I know (of) so many people in the Pokemon fandom who are completely off their rocker, but I suppose I'll take that as a compliment, Hunter. :heart-full:

I'll try setting up a "Webmasters of major Pokemon fansites" thread tomorrow, I'm a bit too tired tonight.

Well, technically its illegal in the US too, but I guess Japan enforces it majorly.

However, people can still bring pencil and paper and draw orotto!

Yeah, I'm not saying its not illegal in the US too, but I mean... I've been to a movie theatre in Japan. The pre-movie announcement cards made it quite clear that if you are found with a camera in the theatre you WILL be charged to the fullest extent of the law, and even urged patrons to keep an eye out for anyone around them who might be recording the movie and to report it at once if something of that nature is witnessed.

You just don't do that shit in a Japanese movie theatre, and you most certainly don't brag about it on the Internet in the news section of your high-profile fansite, either.

Now I just remember watching the eyecancer-inducingly bad camrip of the Haruhi Suzumiya movie. I had no idea how high the production values were until I saw a proper copy, lol.

Yeah, I know in my theatres that I go to, they just have a HUGE sign at the place that you can't miss where you get your tickets NOT TO RECORD YOUR PHONE OR YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED and just talked about how serious a crime it was and stuff and just, not to record. They didn't really make a formal announcement inside the theatre, but its generally not a good idea and they will call the police you if they see you.

but yeah, instead there were a lot of people that just brought pencil and paper and sketched that new treant pokemon orotto that was revealed in the movie and apparently that was allowed.

I think I've seen one or two pre-movie announcements warning you not to record the movie. I think it went something like "You probably wouldn't steal a car, so why would you steal a movie?" But now it's all just "turn off your phones" (someone's always goes off, though...).

I guess paper and pencils are OK just because they were going to release the trailer anyways, and you can't record a movie with that stuff.
