Will we get a Quake reboot ala Doom 2016 ?

I played Quake II on the N64 back then and was a pretty good for an N64 port. It would have been more remembered fondly if it wasn't called Quake II.
Might try the remaster in the future.

But that's surreal to think about... that at one point, a bonus feature with a game could be levels meant for a completely different game. Why aren't computer games this awesome anymore?

Computer gaming was kind of an old wild west back in the day.
The new expansion that came with the remaster has ties with Quake 1, this and the expansion for the Q1 remaster feel like a teaser for the supposed new Quake game that MachineGames is developing, and while these new expansions are good, i still don't know what to expect from them, it could be good but it could also be a pretentious mess full of unskippable cutscenes like Wolfenstein 2.

I hope they dont try to crossover both 1 and 2. I feel like that would work for a fanfiction or mod but not the official thing.

This makes me want to see a re-release of Quake 3 with a really good single player campaign with bots. I'd buy it again for that.
yeah, that and more modern netcode Multiplayer like with Q1 and Q2 and you could see a really active multiplayer community around it.

There's already quake mods that make the netcode modern and very playable. Quake3+ is the main one that is available for anyone to make servers with, but there's also Devotion, which is an adaptation of ratmod from Open Arena to quake3. Works pretty well as far as netcode goes, but it's still in development so it had some quirks in other places.

The problem with Quake3 isn't that there's no good way to play it and therefore no players. The 15$ version on steam is kinda a scam since you can play it for free if you just get the pk3 files from someone, and then there's a bunch of improved engines like ioq3 or the q3+ launcher to run it. The biggest problem with quake 3 is that the community are complete fagots who give off a peaked 20 years ago vibe which turns alot of new players off and they don't stick around and/or it's really hard for new players to actually find a place to play because the admins only let their friends advertise their servers in the main general hubs where new players will end up. There's some cool dudes in it, but there's also alot of complete histrionic cunts or really passive aggressive cunts with ulterior motives and unfortunately, those are the people all in administration positions for the main discords or forums.

A friend of mine has been running vanilla Q3 balance Q3+ servers for over a year now, has hosted multiple events, has done commentary for other communities events for them, and has done casual exhibitions to try and drum up more engagement with the community or new players, and the admins in the main discord still will not let him put his Q3+ servers on their server list, despite them being the only vanilla balanced Q3+ servers in EU and they have a small group of people who actively play on them and want more people to play. They won't give him a role for when his servers have players running games, and they won't let him advertise his discord, meanwhile, the people in the "unfreeze/fpsclassico" servers get all of those things and privileges because, ohh look, they're also the admins of the general Q3 discord where most new players will go first to see if the community isn't dead. And look at this, every server on the advertised list is empty and dead, except these fpsclassico servers. Wow, they must be the only good servers around. It's a fuckin' joke.

It's not much better here in the US either because most US servers are either good with 0 players, or have players and the server is good, but the admins have been caught cheating in the past as well as letting people they know get away with cheating, and if you call them out and show proof that they're cheating, they ban you from the servers. Or it's a server that runs well, but has bots on it pretending to be real players with non-bot names. The community is a fucking joke, which is a shame because Q3 is really fun and with the right mod, has better netcode than QL and is more customizable. Sorry for the long rant, I just don't have anyone to complain about these things to because everyone in EU already knows it, and you get banned from the notable communities in the US if you call them out on their faggorty. Makes me angy

Quake 2 kicks ass and I don't see the need for debate. all the Quakes and Dooms are different games (except for Doom/Doom II I guess) and I like them all individually (except for Doom 2016/Eternal, those suck ass). Doom 3 for example is definitely not like the first two Doom games but still carries forward the cleverly strategic combat design, along with good ambience and fun reimaginings of the original enemies (the Doom 3 lost souls are my favorite). Quake 2 is a fantastically dynamic game with a great audiovisual presentation, color desaturation aside, the weapon/enemy/level design is all excellent and it keeps you on your toes. the levels rarely overstay their welcome and the Strogg - despite being basically angrier, rustier Borg - are a fun concept that bears plentiful fruit. Quake 2 also has the best super shotgun in any id game. fite me.

Now all they need to do is remaster Quake 4. Unpopular opinion, but that is the second best in the series after the first game imo.

heavily agree. I love Quake 4, it has so many fun quirks, like the goony space marine squad ripped right out of a post-9/11 military movie, the part where you get Stroggified and it changes your interface to orange Strogg runes, also it brought back the lightning gun. hell yes. a KEX port of Quake 4 would warm my shriveled sperglord heart.

I didn't think I'd end up revisiting Quake 2 but I ended up playing through the entire re-release recently. Random thoughts on the re-release: The Quake 2 64 campaign was fairly short and you can see how the limitations of the N64 shaped its overall design (tiny maps) but I thought it was pretty good stuff. It's always pretty neat to play things that were officially released but on different platforms that you never had.

Finished the new Machinegames episode. They throw LOADS of enemies at you, at least in nightmare. Real run and gun stuff, very well done. Machinegames does kind of stretch things a little, at least with some of the maps, specifically Ruined Earth and Deepest Depths, it's still Quake 2 but they are definitely putting their own very distinctive mark on it, moreso than their Quake 1 campaign. Only criticism is that it ends almost comically abruptly, it's like Bethesda said "we need to ship now, drop everything".

Also finished the main, original campaign. Seems to be noticeably more enemies on nightmare, my memories are super vague so it's hard to say but it's great either way. I noticed they got rid of having to correct your aim for the basic machine gun's recoil. Good fucking riddance, don't miss it at all. I think one of the reasons Q2 isn't as well regarded as Q1, outside of the whole borrowed name and complete change in setting, is that it tried to insert bits of "realism", such as the recoil on the machine gun, switching weapons taking forever, the movement and air control being more human and sluggish and annoying than Q1, the chaingun being unwieldy..could go on. I'm sure these small but noticeable and numerous gameplay changes drive purists nuts but as someone said this is basically Nightdive's modus operandi at this point.

Not much to say about Ground Zero and The Reckoning except thank Christ for the new compass and the changes to the turrets, goddamn those things used to be obnoxious.

They lowered the railgun damage from 150 to 100 which I don't like, not alone in hoping they just had a mixup in MP/SP values. Also apparently the PS1 campaign is going to be included at a later date, looking forward to that, even if it's mostly a pared down version of the original campaign.

Call of the Machine was worth the purchase price alone, I'm glad I saved that one until last. Main game is still really fun, Q64 was short but decent, although the 2 expansion packs were pretty dull, with annoying enemies and outstay their welcome

Surprised people seem to like this given the not so great rep quake 2 has with the campaign being not as memorable as q1 and the multiplayer not as good as q3.

Railgun got buffed to 125 in the latest patch. So that’s cool.

I’m looking to buy Quake for my PS4 and the multiplayer has cross platform with PC. Is there a problem with cheaters like call of duty or can I expect a good experience and play games without any issues?

What did id Software mean by this?
