Rate me MOTI, but this pisses me off so much. This is so fucking cruel.

Congratulations, not only have you destroyed something your son loved, was proud of, enjoyed, and spent over a year on, you've also irrevocably destroyed his trust in you, his relationship with you, and have given him a lifelong fear of sharing anything he is proud of or enjoys because your sociopathic, and sadistic actions have proved that it can and will be weaponized against him and destroyed.

He will now forever be secretive, isolated, afraid of sharing his like, expressing himself, or getting attached to anything because he will now be in constant fear of it being taken away. You have shown him that you do not care about his property, hard work, creativity, what he loves and makes him happy, or his feelings.

It's not about a Minecraft world. It's about you purposefully destroying something he was proud of, worked really hard, enjoyed, and loved because you failed as a parent. You have ruined your son's life before it has begun, and I hope you wind up unvisited in a home.

It was posted on Reddit so it is almost guaranteed that the events described never actually occurred and that the story was completely made up to get attention- if that makes you feel better.

But thank you for the hilarious mental image of a 50 year old lying in a gutter drinking himself to death because he can't get over a disappointing development with his video game at the age of 9.

A 9 year old doesn't have the capability to make informed ethical decisions. The kid needs to know that anything he loves can and will be taken away if he fucks up or he will continue to fuck up. Beat your kids when they're young or they'll beat you when your old.

Children as young as 5 have the capacity to understand logical consequences. If they don't make sense then they won't learn from it, and doing shit like that does not make any sense. Taking away the computer until their behavior improves is a logical consequence, because it identifies a punishment for bad behavior and a privilege for good behavior. The entire point of socializing kids to understand consequences is to show them that good behavior creates good results, and bad behavior creates bad results. If you have one half without the other it doesn't make for properly socialized kids.

I'm not sure whether you should have been beaten less or more when you were a kid- oh, wait, you still are in all likelihood.
Anyone who beats someone who can't actually fight back is a coward of the highest order.

giving the kid a little beating would have been a better option than this, it would definitely have done a lot less mental damage.
the pain of a few slaps goes away within minutes, but the hours of work that were destroyed in those save files are gone forever.

I both agree and disagree regarding the beating being better. If those were the only two options available, then yeah, getting a slap across the arse is likely preferable to a year's worth of artistic progress being lost, but both of those will harm the child's relationship with their parent(s).

But this is reality, not a video game, we're not forced into binary choices. Log into the router and ban him from the Internet for a month, confiscate his PC and vidya consoles, there's a ton of other punishments you could impose without physical harm or destroying what he's worked on for over a year.

Zandvoort aan Zee, but topless sunbathing is legal on every beach here.

But yeah that kid is just gonna grow up hating the fuck out of his dad.

It's pretty normal in Germany and there are very few restrictions on public nudity. Go by a river or public park on any hot day and you'll see topless and occasionally fully nude sunbathers even if it's on a boardwalk with shops and restaurants nearby. It's a relic of Freikörperkultur

I think it's a Europe thing. One of my cousins from Norway visited once and it was crazy how many times we had to tell her to wear clothes at home.
