r/antiwork - Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like.

How will society function without jobs?

Actually anarchists want to create an environment in which exploitation is not the standard anymore. People are free to peruse their own ideals as long as they do not hinder someone else. If you read some of the actually well informed ideals of anarchists, they make some very good points about the relationship we humans have to money and work, and how we are manipulated into a system of endless debt. I do not agree with everything they say, but they do make some very good and interesting points about the state of man in the current era as we move away from survival based work into a lifestyle of consumerism.

The kind of people you find on reddit subs are not really human, heavily medicated children of middle class, souless automations. They know as much about anarchism as they know about consensual sex with an adult.
This is some of the dumbest commie shit I've read in a long time.

Only a fool who has never seen anarchy would think that it would EVER create an environment free of exploitation, or do anything but dramatically increase it.

To not completely be antagonistic, your quotes about how modern serfdom is a problem are correct observations.

Not even fucking close. r/wallstreetbets scared corpos so much Robinhood and several major trading firms froze trading for almost a whole day. r/antiwork wishes they could accomplish something on that scale.
As someone who was on wsb before it was cool (i. e. before the gamestop shit ruined it): lol.

wsb had buckbroken robinhood and their friends worse before gamestop with free money cheats and infinite leverage. They had something like 5-6 modifications to the platform just because of shit WSB pulled off before it drowned in normies (they even removed Shkreli as a mod ffs).

Nothing on reddit has any value.

This saga is the gift that keeps on giving as the community absolutely implodes.

Here is the text from the leaving anarchist mod (copied and pasted):

Stepping down as an /r/Antiwork mod

What a journey it has been. It all started with the Abolition of Work

An idea where we live in a society without being forced in your childhood to go to school 8 hours - half of your lifetime, to a place you don't like. For me it was 10 hours usually. Without being forced to work for 8-10 hours or even longer. Holy shit, America has it really bad. But it's not like social democracies are better either.

And well regarding the experience with /r/antiwork... long story short: I had lots of fun with anarchists and other radicals, brilliant discussions the almost 2 years I was active there (before I was invited to be a mod) and I'm honestly not sad that the liberals, with their failed reformism, as history always shows, are mad at me.

What I am: I'm disappointed. At the people not even reading the sidebar - the introduction pieces and slowly co-opting antiwork in an idea it never was.

Let me make it clear as a post-left Anarchist.

I don't fucking care about your democracy - the tyranny of the majority (well, supposedly, but the rich are ruling us right now - I care about my own well-being, about my willful self-creation. I care about to live. And if I see someone else sad, I'm sad too.

And it was making me sad how /r/antiwork slowly was dying to liberals. The original userbase was full of radicals, a lot of anarchists and there were several discussions in subreddits where radicals frequented how it's just full of liberals now that want "nicer bosses" - even though the structure itself is just shit. I tried listening to community feedback and was actively trying to implement them in the 28 days I was modding - to the point of sleep deprivation today with 3 hours of sleep. Ironic, isn't it?

I actually thought about deleting Reddit the same day I got invited, as I was reading https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/return-fire-vol-4-supplement-caught-in-the-net - the dangers about companies, monopolies, capitalists, owning not only the physical space through private property, but also the internet itself. NFT were almost an evolution of property - making particular pieces in the internet itself being owned by someone. I guess it kind of failed?

Anyways, I'll deleting my Account soon and I'll be focusing on doing mutual aid in real life.

And for any Anti-Worker reading this, no, not the liberals, let me tell you this:

Our rights were fight for on the street, not begged in front of a capitalist that couldn't care less.

Let's not remember the bad moments, but the good memories we had with our pairs.

“The state calls its own violence law, but that of the individual, crime.” - Max Stirner
lmao lmao lmao for once I want to stay on Mr. Bones Wild Ride and see where this all goes.

Nah mate, it also happens in Israel where exporting it to some illegal is a massive risk (both economically and security-wise). It's just boomers/HR inputting numbers they think is "correct", or retarded project leaders.
The funniest one I've seen is asking for more time experience with a software than it's actually existed.
Depending on the country, a lot of it is also just employers that already have someone in mind for the job (internal transfer, lateral promotion, the boss' nephew, etc) but they legally have to advertise the job to the public and accept offers. So to get around this they put out something deliberately over-the-top and contradictory so that only morons and unqualified faggots show up. Then they happily run through the motions of the interviews, nobody is a "good fit" so nobody gets the job, and the position gets quietly filled by "moving people around internally". Mission successful, everybody (that matters) is happy, and nobody gets sued or accused of nepotism.

Does anyone else feel just a little bit bad for the tranny janny? The guy is clearly mentally unwell in the first place, and now he’s getting dogpiled by his ideological opponents and (more importantly) his ideological allies. When you consider that the typical redditor cares a lot about what their peers think of them, he must be in hell right now. I wouldn’t be shocked if he does a flip.

My jaded internet side says it’s lulzy & he brought it on himself , but my softer side hopes he isn’t taking all of this too hard.
You know why I don't feel this way? This guy has banned countless people on his modding power trips on Reddit, accusing them of transphobia and discrimination towards autistic people, of which there are screenshots, and each of those people probably felt badly afterwards because being treated unfairly makes people feel like shit. The dude makes people feel uncomfortable irl by pretending to be a woman and wearing skirts as a no-necked male troglodyte, insists on people using she/her pronouns for an obvious dude which causes mental distress to people who have to force cognitive dissonance, likely wanders into women's bathrooms for his fetish, embarrasses his parents for this being their son, and admitted to masturbating next to non-consenting people. And at the end of it all, this dude is completely unapologetic and shameless, which is terrifyingly disconnected.

The world of Minecraft would be a better place without this kind of person in it. This person is an icky, masturbating, clueless, narcissistic parasite. I'll take my hats now.

You go onto a subreddit named "antiwork", with these books listed in the sidebar:

As well as a link to an entire library of books and texts (archive) featuring this:

And you're shocked this subreddit is run by anarchists? Shocked that the mods actually don't want to work, ever?
:story:

“Millions are living like boomers did” isn’t really true. Buying a house, even where I live where living expenses are pretty cheap, just isn’t affordable. Your average boomer had a house and/or spent less per month on housing expenses than your average millennial right now. That’s adjusted for inflation. “What about taking loans?”

We’re already in debt more often than not. Covid has been a blessing in that it’s allowed me to completely rip away the interest on my student loans and get at the principal. It’s hard to justify buying a house when it will take me a long time to pay off or get money back out of my investment. I put a good amount of my income into my 401k and other retirement funds too. Not everyone has that luxury, and I’m glad I can afford that and work at a place that actually offers me decent benefits. Not everyone is as lucky. Where people work has changed too - moving long distances for work is much more common now, and moving isn’t cheap. Urban centers are where work is more often than not, and it’s where the money is. Suburban sprawl has wrecked so many things in America but that’s a different topic entirely.

Boomers benefited from a strong labor sector, investment in local manufacturing, pretty much no global competition economically and a glut of college education that was actually affordable. Boomers also killed all those things out of greed. Who caused the 2008 collapse? Boomers. Who tore up all the unions and instituted “right to work laws” that tipped the scales toward the employer in so many places? Boomers. Who got rid of regulation that kept companies from becoming monstrous conglomerates that strangle competition in the grave? Boomers. Who outsourced work to save a nickel? Boomers.

Boomers want us to shut up and get fucked over by them because god forbid they admit they’re the most entitled fucking generation on the planet and squandered all of it from greed. They expect us to thank them for the privilege of having to fix the messes they gave us. They refuse to give an inch of power or attempt to mitigate the damage they’ve caused. They refuse to see the world has completely changed but they demand us to conform to their expectations and keep consuming so their pockets can be lined.

Fuck boomers and fuck thinking like boomers or living like boomers. Soulless and materialistic leeches who don’t give a shit because they got theirs.

> my student loans

Yeah thats the laughable part. I went to community for a tech certification. I own a house and 3 cars, and out of my circle im doing the WORST of all lol

Thats rhe problem. People like you were brainwashed into the "you need college to do anything or you'll be poor" and ended up with a skillset that can only be utilized in hyperurban areas that are excessively expensive. You are exactly the problem.

You guys dont realize that there are tons of small cities that have 50k-200k people that are nice, nearly crime free, all amenities etc yet have cheap living and good paying jobs. This is something I see constantly with millenials.

The mindset you have is what fucks over so many millenials. You guys never learned to branch out. Millions upon millions is an understatement.

Too many of you have been brainwashed into this mentality that X is acceptable and Y is not, and that you must live in a certain place, a certain way, with certain things, or you aren't living at all. I live an hour from Chicago, houses here are about $100-150k for a nice place with a 2 car garage and a yard. There's tons of places here that pay out $45k+ year for basic factory work, industrial stuff. Etc whcih is more than enough to afford a house here. This is generally the situation across the entire center of the country, and especially in the midwest. Yet, do you know how many times Ive explained this to other millenials and I get "well I cant live THERE" why not? Because that wont look good on your Instagram? Because there isnt a vegan lesbian owned whole foods? Your job is available here. Your pay is available here. Why cant you anywhere other than urban bugman land?

But what do you do? Instead of looking into this all, what do you do? You blame the generation before you. You blame the lack of unions (cause that really helps lol) and some how its the boomers fault that you cant put away some money for a down payment on a house. Because why? Because things cost more? Almost like thats the story of each generation in the modern era. Shit costs more.

All you need to do is make enough money to pay your bills, and enough to put away for retirement. Thats it, and yet you make some big ass deal out of "boohoo the boomers". Yes, things have gotten more expensive. Wages dont match, no. But does that mean its unliveable? Absolutely not. Boomers are still buying houses, still active in rhe market, still contributing to retirment plans, etc. But people like you act like they all sit there in million dollar retirement homes laughing at you.

(The grandiloquent book passage above is from a book by William C. Roberts, but it sounds very similar to the rationale of a Reddit mod going on Fox News to represent 'the movement.')
