If you have a degree in the arts you can make something good for yourself out of that. But the thing is you need to fucking work. You're not going to graduate then roll up to a gallery with your painting of your boyfriend's penis (90% of modern art is cock related) and then make a living off off it. The people I know who actually make a living doing art or creative work are not living this relaxing, hippy dippy, freewheeling life. They work. Constantly. Often for little reward. These people have to travel constantly, they have to be producing material constantly, they have to network with everyone they can, they have to run websites and shit like that, they have no free time whatsoever.Arts degrees actually have a pretty good full time employment rate (though often not directly working in their field of education) outside of burgerland.
You'd think that thinking outside the box, a few steps ahead, and considering different points of view is a higher than a retard IQ baseline skill, but its not, and or at least most white collar people dont care enough to flex it. but it is a major success indicator (conscienciousness), and arts/humanities fields are very useful for training that muscle and making it an always on passive skill.
(This is the trait jordan peterson drones on about but never explains)
A lot of people think they'll get an art degree then the one painting they produce every 6 months is going to be so good that they can life off it. That or they imagine they'll get a job animating at cartoon network or some shit, or they'll just generally get to spend a typical 9-5 doing only things they like and not having to go to an office. That's not how it works. Being an artist isn't just a full time gig, it's a full life gig. That's it, that's pretty much all you do. You don't go out on the weekend, you paint stupid shit on commission under deadline, and then after that you have another, and another...
Being an artist is ironically harder work than actual work. Too bad none of them appreciate this and then get pissed off that they get stuck working at wallmart.
