That description of "sanewashing" is probably the most accurate write up of Americans politics writ large I've ever seen. It's not just the left, it's like everyone just says random, provocative, shit constantly and then spends months jumping through hoops in an attempt to pretend it isn't

There are no journalists in America and TV will never give the whole truth. People think they're going to get on fox and give some rousing Howard Beale speech. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" and that millions of people will see this, nod, and then go give our poor Doreen type everything they want (whatever it is). Doesn't happen. They cut your speech into a soundbite, or out altogether, or you get cut off by Tucker Carlson mid sentence and he says some snarky shit you don't know how to respond to because it was only said to confuse you.

Never, not once, ever, has television news made the world better. It has always fucking sucked. Nothing good will ever come out of you talking to a "journalist" from a corporation like Fox or CNN.

It's one thing to say the transphobia is a step too far (as if anybody's ACTUALLY being transphobic here), but even if you're a diehard trans "ally" you have to make some piece with the fact that most of America just breaks out into fucking laughter when they see people like Doreen. Nonbinary people are shit public spokesmen for that reason. They're already not being taken seriously. Because Norway has some of the strictest immigration laws on the planet. Even with the high tax rate most of their spending on social services is financed with their oil exports. They love to tout the "wonderful" infant-care but when you dig deeper you'll find the average wait time for serious treatment is two years, after the period considered "infancy".

A few years ago when Trump was elected a very popular singer in New Orleans named Meschiya Lake made a big deal about how she was leaving the awful USA for Ireland after marrying some dude from there for all the free healthcare they would provide her and her newborn. Most of that has been scrubbed from the internet because now she's back holding fundraisers to hire a lawyer since that dude supposedly beat her a lot and has since "kidnapped" the kid (his kid). Meschiya is a real treat, Google her.

I mean, it was obviously a setup (the media has already decided the narrative they're going to present before they reach out to interviewees) but it was the mildest setup possible. No real gotcha questions or dishonest editing, they knew the troon would do all the work to make himself look ridiculous and they were right.

Interestingly a poll of r/antiwork showed that 67% of their members had full time jobs so they actually had millions of members who could have probably articulated their ideas better but they went ahead and chose the greasy unemployed troon anyway.

I think the main reason you always see this shit happen is that normal working class people, even those who want serious change, are too busy working. You can only be an activist if you have nothing to occupy your working day. Same reason intellectuals always come up with bonkers theories that have nothing to do with reality, it's impossible to get experience with the real world and also be an intellectual.
