Man I remember when I first hit rock bottom and was explicitly eating as little as possible to not be a burden on my parent. Eating rice and eggs, baked potatos, ramen noodles, mac and cheese, spaghetti with no meatballs, drinking flavor water. When I went on food stamps and got $250 a month I didn't even know what to do with the extra $150 so I just splurged a bit on frozen pizza and tater tots from the freezer, handed out free food and traded food for things.
I'm totally fine with a measly $300 or $400 a month UBI, that's genuinely enough for a reasonable man to live like a king. You can buy tools, you can relax, you can visit a theme park once in a while. If you need more than that, you only have to work for like a week. If you gave that much to 400 million people, including giving it to babies (their parents to take care of them I guess), that costs 160 billion a month. Fast food can just get shut down unless rich people want to prop it up with their own dollars to pay the workers $20/hr. I can make better chicken nuggies than Wendy's for nothing anyway.
Kind of the only reason some of my friends were vicariously doing the equivalent of hosuework on survival-crafting games is because it costs too much money in real life and work makes them too tired, having no future and not seeing anybody makes them depressed, and most of them don't even have a lawn to mow. I don't really care about appeasing urbanites but giving the actual common man breathing room to enjoy life enough that he just starts wiring up his own house for fun is honestly what I'd like to see. I think the reasonable man wants to live like a tradie where he is useful to the world and likes being around others, but operates on a schedule that revolves around his own biology as he knows it. Sadly it costs like $15,000 to become a tradie, you get paid like shit for the first quarter of your "career", you're required by law to be someone's bitch for 5 years to earn your own freedom to start a business, and the trade market is oversaturated where there's a guy for each utility per square mile.
Either way there's gotta be a solution some time soon because in the next few years another couple thousand people around here are going to lose their jobs to a robot factory. A huge power plant opened up here and the company said they'd give the jobs to locals, then imported people from across the country instead. There's going to be even less places to turn to as time goes on and the only input I see from boomers, liberal Shlomo Goldstein, Xirsten the software developer, and /pol/tard who made money on Crypto is "Lol serves the retards right. They can either figure something out or die."
