I love R&B. Going to resurrect this dormant thread to post what I've been listening to recently.
This is a simple song, basic lyrics, instrumentation and production but it all just clicks.
Tems - Me & You
I guess you'd call this more pop/alt-R&B but I think Beyonce's sister Solange has put out some good stuff:
Solange - Losing You
Speaking of Beyonce, I've never really gone on a Beyonce listening kick so I'm not really familiar with her catalog but this one off her most recent, I think they're calling it country but it's more country themed? album is fantastic:
Beyonce - II Hands II Heaven
I've been obsessed with this song lately. Like the first song above I don't think there's any one thing special about it but it really works as a whole. I know Mariah gets a lot of hate, whatever.
Mariah the Scientist & Kali Uchis - Is It A Crime
On to some male vocalists.
A singer who goes by SiR made a song from the perspective of King of the Hill's John Redcorn. The video is particularly excellent:
SiR - John Redcorn
Now if you prefer male vocalists, Gallant is someone worth checking out:
Gallant - Relapse
You can never go wrong with Miguel.
Miguel - Simple Things
Another alt-R&B artist, this is a producer-singer duo and the singer is really talented. I've listened to them probably more than any recent R&B artists besides maybe the Weeknd and Miguel. The switch up in the second half is *chef's kiss*
DVSN - Nuh Time/Tek Time
