My Cat From Hell is a show about helping cat owners fix their cats' behavioral issues. All of this goes over the heads of r/ifuckinghatecats. Usually the cats are destroying things or attacking people due to boredom because no one was playing with them, and require ways to redirect their energy in a nondestructive manner. Other episodes, cats are aggressive to each other and need either socialization or an outlet for their energy. Occasionally the show exhibits cats that had to be medicated due to mental imbalances that caused them to feel threatened by everything all the time, but they were still able to be tamed with medication and some training, and neither of these threads seem to be referencing one of these episodes anyway.


But small dog's bad behavior always gets excused too. No one calls for a 5lb Pomeranian to get put down when it bites either.


Also lol, now the subreddit has to cover their ass with this disclaimer.


According to these folks, distressed/bored cats whose behavior can be corrected are abusive monsters, and advising owners on how they can correct their cat's behavior is victim-blaming.


Infantilizing animals as babies is obnoxious and even dangerous, but this redditor sounds like he looks down on anyone who cares for another animal.


At least one of them seems to be a dog-lover, and basically remarks "The host of the show looks strange so I'll disregard everything he says." Does this redditor know that poorly-trained dogs can also be a danger to children?

Ah yes, sure, it's pets who are abusive to their owners. That's definitely what happens. It couldn't possibly be that the animal is defending itself/seeking attention in the only way it knows how. (Plus it's easy to tell when cats want you to stop petting them as long as you're not stupid.)

The story about the cat and the baby does piss me off (and I'm saying this as a cat owner.) Cats aren't babies, they generally don't even like being babied, and some people legit just can't handle a pet and a kid at the same time. But it's 100% the owners' fault. If you have a territorial cat and you don't even try to make the necessary preparations for a baby (or keep the cat away from it!) then you're actually braindead.

These people forget the contribution that cats and dogs have made for the human race. Cats helped make agriculture possible by reducing pest damage to stored crops. Okay, so that comment about no natural predators is 100% pure bullshit. Where I live, you have to be careful about letting your animals out at night because a coyote might actually catch it and eat it. They even eat medium to large sized dogs, so of course cats are on the menu. In large parts of the south, Burmese pythons are an invasive species that will definitely eat your cats. Seriously, in what capacity do house cats not have any predators? This person has to live in some upper middle class suburban neighborhood and has no idea what the rest of the world is like.
