R.I.P Conker

I honestly believed that after Rare Replay and Yooka Laylee, Rare might actually realize what people want and make a proper Banjo-Threeie, and make it actually good. Now? Not so much.

You know, there is something inherently evil about starting a segment, saying "Conker [is] a much beloved property and has a huge following..." all the while showing that abomination they're passing off as Conker on the screen. It's like saying "Silent Hill is a much beloved property and has a huge following..." and then showing some old, nicotine-addicted Japanese fart playing the Silent Hill pachinko machine. or like saying "Fire Emblem is a much beloved property and has a huge following..." and then showing Nintendo Treehouse dry-humping Iwata's grave.

I honestly believed that after Rare Replay and Yooka Laylee, Rare might actually realize what people want and make a proper Banjo-Threeie, and make it actually good. Now? Not so much.

It's a nice thought, but the Rare of today is not the Rare that we all knew back in the 90s. So even if they were going to be making Banjo-Threeie, chances are it wouldn't have the same feel to it. Also, keep in mind the people in the current rare have spent the last few years primarily churned out games for the Kinect and Items for. I know they got that "Sea of Thieves" coming out, but considering all we've seen is a two minute alpha-build trailer from last year's E3, I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer actually said, and I quote, "Right now with Rare we're at a point where I don't want the Rare brand to mean Kinect Sports. The Rare brand can be more valuable to them, to us and to gamers than that." But whether they can be more than that, we'll have to wait and see.

I hope that whatever Rare ends up making, it's either good or shit. Because in-between is mediocrity, which can make enough money that the developers need - and thus probably will - never improve.
 
I fucking adore the 2 viva pinata games on the 360 (except party animals, we don't talk about that one) so like, not making shitty games is certainly an option but viva pinata wasn't a big hit like they wanted because a few reasons
-The show
-The game was too cutesy for adults
-The game was too hard for children (figuring out how to get all the shit and making pinatas fuck)
So it really only had a niche audience and they only made 2 games to my infinite dissapointment. If Microsoft wanted they could round up some talented people and throw money at them but I dunno how corporate works so they don't for whatever reason

Also wtf Conker redesign why's his head so fucking huge, what was wrong with his old design was it not hip enough for the kids? He's got sneakers and a hoodie that's hip as shit

The old Chuck E Cheese design scares me for some reason, I think the new one is better on the grounds it's less terrifying but worse due to the fact they're trying to make him hip with the kids being a jean wearing, guitar playing mouse
So are we entering a new "cool 90's redesign" era of remaking characters?

I personally don't even like Conker, but even I can tell that microsoft is giving off the impression of shitting on "the well beloved franchise" (because they know people love Conker).
Putting him in Project Spark already upset people, but now you have this wierd ass abomination that doesn't look or act like Conker on a "console" and with a "game" that people probably won't be able to afford or want to play. It just boggles my mind, what went into this decision.
I feel like they went with the "If we slap his name on this, they'll buy it." mentality, because that apparently worked for Skylanders too. Just with the difference, that Spyro was supposed to appeal to kids, not to adults in the case of Skylanders. Conker was always on the adult side with bad fur day.
