The popping community exists for the purpose of recording and sharing videos and images of pimples, abscesses, and other fluids or objects being removed from humans and animals. Content is usually rated based on the severity of the objects being removed and the detail of the extraction. Medical gore and pustulant fluids are to be expect from the majority of the content.

For most individuals, puberty brings with it acne and embarrassing skin blemishes, which are only drained out of medical necessity to avoid scarring. However, for certain individuals, popping pimples becomes pleasurable and they spend the rest of their life hastily picking at flesh to extract material. Such people can be found on r/popping, tiktok, youtube, and other similar communities. This thread shall principally feature r/popping as it is the most active and prolific of these communities and tends to rehost material from competing communities.

The popping community can be broken down into a few primary segments. These include the following:

The Casual Popper
The casual popper is the most common group of people you'll find. These people will post small videos of black head or white head removal. If they use a tool in their videos, it will overwhelmingly be a common tweezer, a circular metal hook, or a miniature vacuum. This sort of video is dime a dozen and will make up the majority of the content you find. As a casual popper, they will make certain to overshare intimate details of their life to go after internet recognition. Genitals and DIY surgery are infrequent and horrifying sights.

Certain legendary videos in the community have included a man who ripped a cyst out of his face with a pair of rusty pliers.

Infected spider bites also make the rounds. These may be seen at a proper clinic but you can be certain that any wound draining at home will get recorded and shared with the world.

DIY infected tattoo surgery goes as wrong as you'd expect for a medical procedure carried out with nail trimmers. Reddit was fully convinced this man died shortly after this "operation" until told otherwise.

It should be recalled that picking at sensitive areas of your body can lead to them getting infected as one redditor discovered.

Women
Women, and in particular mothers, are a common sight in the popping community. They can often be found "grooming" their husbands and loved ones.

Mothers are amongst the most insatiable poppers in the scene. They are not above posting images of their teenagers and even babies with messages about how much they want to pop their children's pimples. They have a thing for ears for some reason.

Genitals are not off limits and you will see women pulling things from their vulvas.

The Professional
The professional comes in three varieties: youtube pimple dermatologists, real doctors, and livestock doctors.

The first of these is the degenerate influencer. You've probably heard of figures like Dr. Pimple Popper who got her own television show on TLC. Less well known figures tend to come from various parts of Asia and provide videos of excessively damaged skin laden with blackhead and pus to be removed. Some of these figures are legitimate medical specialists but they glamorize their work and act like typical social media influencers. Dr. Pimple Popper, for example, has tried to license her own line of cosmetic products in the past. One of the most notable figures in this regard is a man who goes by the name Dr. George. Dr. George runs a clinic in Taiwan and has become notorious within the popping community for the rough handling of his patients, which often includes excessive bruising and the rending of healthy tissue while he removes cysts.

There are proper, and some improper, medical videos from legitimate medical offices that will end up on popping communities as well. These videos are either taken for educational purposes or the patient wanted the footage for gawking privileges. The ones that rank highly tend to be ones that feature the removal and packing of large cysts or abscesses, though sensitive areas such as the eyeball will find their way as well.

Not even the popping community is immune to trannies. Remember all of those mangled genitals with pus bleeding from them? Those get drained by medical professionals, and probably on your tax dollars.

Finally, you'll get a bunch from livestock or pets. Apparently, cattle are prone to developing massive abscesses and chickens get infections over their eyes.

Everything Else
The fascination with removing things from other things knows seemingly no limit. Community members will often upload videos of ear wax removal and tonsil stones.

The best strategy to remove in grown hairs is digging them out of the flesh with a metal instrument.

Good OP. This fixation has had me bewildered for a long time.

I'll never understand the obsession some people have with pimple popping. There are entire channels and TV shows dedicated to recording it, apps like Instagram and Snapchat dedicate sections of their explore page to it. It's fucking gross and I'd rather watch a liveleaks Chinese lumber mill compilation before ever clicking on one.

Certainly, a very well-put-together thread, but I suppose I'm just wondering what the point is exactly. I mean you can gawk at people for liking such absurd content but I don't really see any exceptional behavior from the individuals involved. I don't really see anything particularly funny or crazy about people recording pimped they pop in an attempt to gain a crumb of internet clout, it's just the sort of low IQ content I would expect on the modern Internet. I think there is certainly potential here, I would focus a lot more on the buffoons trying to mimic someone like Doctor Pimple Popper and failing miserably, people trying and failing to perform DIY surgery at home for those sweet sweet views is something I think is a much better topic than just the community overall. So maybe include a bit more about the exceptional individuals trying to do it themselves at home. Otherwise, good thread!

There's a disturbing obsession in general with this kind of 'genre', I guess you could call it real-life gross out, not really shock content because it doesn't completely include violence. And people seem to actually enjoy it alone. Really the pimple poppers are just an extra clickbait offspring of this internet subculture.

My mom can't stand the sight of snot and vomit, and yet she watches these videos all the goddamn time and I just don't get it. :cringe: I'm glad she's so normie about Facebook, I dunno if she's ever found some group dedicated to this (it probably exists on there).

Corn removals count, too. She's like an "expert" when it comes to corns, it'd drive doctors nuts. (No videos, I'm not infecting my computer and phone with that shit.)

The main humor in the thread is laughing at people with no regard for self-preservation. I would compare the appeal to the sex reassignment surgery thread. It's people making terrible life choices. You'll have individuals appear for a short period of time in which they'll provide near daily updates on some medical horror they've likely inflicted on themselves before disappearing once the matter is resolved. One area that I've been trying to dig into more is the Asian "beauty clinics" that specialize in making 20+ minute pimple popping videos. There's definitely some sort of industry to this but there are language barriers that prevent a complete investigation. The western Dr. Pimple Popper types provide a veneer of legitimacy that the Asian clinics lack. Well, that and any apparent medical training. The Asians will just rend open faces repeatedly with a scalpel without regard for scarring. Much like the sex change industry, you'll find these clinics in countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

Another area that I haven't fully explored is the tiktok community. I know there are channels that will provide a bunch of content, but I haven't gone too far in that direction. You might find more DIY types over there. Most of the reddit DIY are flash in the pan surgeons that'll mangle their bodies with nail clippers or other improvised instruments on only a few occasions. There are some repeat uploaders that have gone out and purchased standardized equipment with minicameras attached. The most horrifying of these tools is a vacuum nozzle with a camera inside. Some users leave it on a single spot long enough to draw blood.

A few months ago, I was staying in a hotel and had a giant TV in my room. Since I haven't had traditional TV service in years, I decided to flip the channel to TLC expecting some trashy fat people show to laugh at, but instead fucking Dr. Pimple Popper was on.

This being a hotel, the remote was crapped out and unresponsive and of fucking course, the thirty seconds of hard pressing the channel up button before anything happened had to coincide with the biggest money shot I've ever seen blowing out of a human face.

I don't understand how there can be full-on communities committed to this, let alone any amount of serious discussion from people who just enjoy watching it and have no medical interest or anything? It's just weird to me how easily online groups form around the weirdest and most mundane shit– Everyone gets pimples/etc, it's not shocking to see or something. :\

I will admit though that if I encounter this stuff scrolling through whatever media, I'll generally stop and watch it if it's not too gross.. I don't know, but is second-hand relief a thing? I feel like that's the draw for me to watch it, but it's not nearly enough to want to seek out this sort of content.

My fucking parents are into these pimple popping videos and I can never get them to tell me why they find this shit entertaining or fascinating.

These aren't like, tiny fucking pimples you get, these are huge fucking things that people have had for a long time and I can't even look at the screen when someone has it on. This is legitimately one of the few things I either have to look away or look down from when one of these videos is on, I find it literally that disgusting.

My mom used to force me to lie down and pop my pimples back when I was in puberty.
Didn't get any scars, but it was absolutely painful, afterwards she would smear rubbing alcohol and the burning set it, making the now open pimples burn.

I wonder what other pimple lunatics the internet offers.
