Schmitt is highly underrated in the West. The Chinese fully embraced his political philosophy and it does them wonders in foreign affairs.

Ironically Italy is one of the most fun nations to play in the older games.
Like any country that is in the middle it can be such a wild card that I always have a blast playing the minors.
Especially in modded playthroughs where stuff gets so wacky and planning ahead can be a blessing and a curse.


Fuck me I am getting nostalgic.

This just goes to show that the EU4 modding scene is better than the hoi4, less autistic drama bullshit and more whacky self aware mods, plus the fact that if you want some alt-history you can just install the extended timeline mod and do all the shit you want like making a perfect world in wich Roman Emperor Aurelian AKA Balthasar Gelt becomes fucking inmortal.

MEIOU and Taxes was good when I last played it. An unfinished work in progress, but no political autism that I can recall. I don't think EU4 draws lolcows in the same way because there's no communism in it.

Last I checked the CK2 and CK3 modding communities seem if not based then at least not retarded bunker-chan lunacy. Mostly just people joking about incest and "making a family wreath" and making fantasy mods. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I had fun with Warhammer Geheimnisnacht ( I had to google the spelling on that one. Fuck your beer stained, nasally grunting, Germany.) and Elder Kings.

I think the Warcraft and LotR mods are beautifully presented but more scripted, messy as fuck, and prone to instability. I look forward to the new mods for CK3.

They definitely need tactical usage, though. There's no way to use them on a small scale except in Germany's civil war, despite the fact that people like MacArthur wanted to do so historically.
 
The first instance of (lefty) political spergery in these modding communities I remember was back when MagnaMundi for EU3 was a thing and had an event chain that let you form a socialist peasant republic as the result of the German Peasants War.
The guy who implemented that got into a bunch of arguments but compared to these alt history three quarters fueled by commie butthurt? Meh.

The concept of socialism existing before the French revolution is nonsense. The terms for political left and right didn't even exist before then.

There were some early movements like the Diggers, but having a socialist republic in the 16th century is anachronistic.

However on the "egregious bullshit" chart it still rates below making a bunch of Soviet successor states situated in Siberia into snowy San Francisco complete with free SRS surgery for transsexual Somali climate refugees.

Are there Somalis turning up in Siberia in TNO? I wasn't aware. One Siberian winter and they'd go straight back.

Also I'd expect pollution and climate change to be lower in TNO than real life given most of Russia and China has been completely devastated and GDPs are a lot worse.

Well realistically speaking a tactical nuke in a cold war style setting would result in a full blown nuclear war in the near term, like probably within 48 hours. Actually that might still be the case even now.
