Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I played his replacement, Hart (i think) and it was so deeply lame
Hart was made in order to cash-in with the (then, and still ongoing) trend of 'mutts wanting heckin' public transportation and walkable cities just like in Europe (specifically, only Amsterdam). It makes sense when you think about it since the time Hart was being developed and was finally released roughly coincided with the rise of channels such as famous ukronazi simp Adam Something and also subreddits like r/FuckCars.
Literally all that Hart is known for his better public transportation for 'muttistan. Like wow that's cool and all, but how is interesting in a Nazi-Imperial Japanese-American Cold War?
Shilling another 'nerd trvthnvke.
TNO at its current state is literally just a "fandom" at this point. Just a "fandom", as I put in quotation marks because half the people don't even play the mod and just skim the TV Tropes page because its by far the most detailed one out of all the HOI4 mod tropes pages and the few that still actually play the mod, will blindly praise the shitty content that they do get in order to pledge their allegiance to the current TNO devs because saying anything otherwise just means you get kicked out of the "fandom". It's a really big bargaining chip since a lot of these nu-TNO fans basically have no lives and all of their e-friends are part of the TNO 'fandom' (aka just the Discord), so they'll never want to disrespect the current developers or else 90% of their e-friends are gone.

And in general, TNO "fans" don't actually care about TNO as a video game or piece of alternate history work, it's just a community at this point for trannies to politisperg under the auspicious of the former two (video game & alternate history).

Why else do they want to make everything more realistic and more like OTL. It's because they can hide behind the current TNO fandom to sperg about their gay politics. Hence why TNO surprise surprise has a shit ton of bias that goes beyond the obvious "Nazis are bad" (yeah no shit).

They keep saying they are reworking shit over and over again as an empty threat to 'filter' out new people from coming since they want to keep their gay little fandom pure and controlled. Every time a TrooNO dev says they are gonna rework a nation, they use that as a way to count people who are 'no longer loyal' to the fandom and thus kick them out.

Call me a schizo, but they will never actually release those long awaited reworks or updates for major superpowers (USA, GER, JPN) or even great powers like (ITA, IBR, FRA). It's all just to filter out their fandom. They'll make an update with like two years of content for some Latinx country no one cares about with boring elections and ideologies but that's to keep the illusion of the mod being alive. The mod is effectively dead and they prefer to keep it as a "fandom".

It's like that one story of a crackhead mom keeping her brain-dead son "alive" (aka he's literally just a corpse that happens to have a beating heart) so she can still cash in on his disability checks and crowdfunding pity money.
edit: I think I referenced the Archie Battersbee case.

It is as much as a fandom as the Yandere Simulator fandom is where its split between detractors of Alex and underaged TikTok girls getting groomed by Alex. No one actually cares about the core game itself at thus point.

It's why in retrospect; I used to think this thread should be in the Games subforum, but it really does fit the Community subforum instead because there's barely any 'game' to play!

On the topic of TNORA @GoodWinSon How hard would it be for you to code in a full Vic-2 style influence system and GUI?
Funnily enough there's already a Vic2-like influence system for the Ural warlords and Kazakhstan. Even from scratch it shouldn't take that much time.

I was considering making a mechanic like that for Japan/China and USA respectively albeit with more scripted events/narratives.* Also could be a good way to have an imperialism mechanic in Africa.

So my idea is every so often Japan has to make a decision that will effect how the Great Asian War begins. Like maybe Thailand and Burma are having a border dispute and you have to choose who to favor. Or maybe you have to choose whether to allow Vietnam (if you kill the Viet Minh) to annex Laos and Cambodia. Doing so gets you a strong and loyal Indochina, but angers Thailand and also will result in Pol Pot uprising.

On the flipside, China is covertly subverting Japan and has to make the best from the fallout of Japan's choices.

USA would be similar. Some Latin American tags will flip to Fascist regardless, but you can choose a few nations to fortify and ensure they stay democratic or flip to socialist.

So maybe one game you get Che Guevera to coup Bolivia and let Peru fall to nationalists and another you do the opposite.

I noticed that everytime I played Tyumen, holdover from the Panzer era, but I meant exactly like the Vic2 influence tab with a whole list of countries to scroll through and the little 3-segment influence bar. You ever think about locking certain conflicts behind influence when a superpower is controlled by a playrr? Like in Mexico with Japan or Germany destabilizing the country, or Germany arming Pakistani rebels in the RoI to rise up during the Indian civil war. I assume a system like this would be tricky since TNO never had the same level of player-freedom in. warsas Kaiserreich, so you might break certain proxies and focuses.

Speaking of the Games subforum I'd love to talk about Hoi4 and it's mods, instead of just the community, in a place that isn't leddit or some discoal server. I think there used to be a grand strategy thread in the Games section of KF but I couldn't find it the other day.

You can do that here. We’ve done it for 200 or so pages and no one’s gotten jannied for it.

Can be done. Just set a country flag (let's call it ZZZ_idiot_tag) for every nation you want to be influencable at game start (using on_actions) and add their tags to an array. Then use the array to create a dynamic_list in your scripted gui. You can also give each nation an influence variable for each superpower (GER_influence, JAP_influence, etc.) Then you can make the 3-segment bar a button which increases/decreases a variable that tracks how much one superpower investing in each tag using a variable. Make one of these variables for each superpower and add them to every nation. Finally every month (or day but that can effect performance badly), run a calculation that adds the appropriate amount of influence for each tag. You can also recreate the array to account for tags that have gained/lost ZZZ_idiot_tag.

In addition you'll want to add opinion levels and spherelings. Those can have their own buttons. Every time you increase opinion/sphere a nation, you reset the influence variable to 0, and start the climb again. Spherelings can be tracked with ideas or country flags, and the number of spherelings can contribute to superpower score and yield other benefits. The other Vic2 buttons could be added in a similar matter

Of course, you'll want the gui to be usable. Since in this scenario we have all the influenceble nations in one big array (like in Vic2), you'll want to use a sorting algorithim (quicksort would probably be best for such a large array, it's what TNO's ledger gui uses) to access the desired countries in the list. Alternatively, you can put parts or all of the gui in the diplomacy tab and check influence that way.

You could alter this design as desired, but at least this way there should be minimal interference in established content. Of course, making the AI actually use this mechanic properly would be another matter, but you could always cheat and make their behavior scripted.

Can be done.
This is neat. My TNO will still use the modern TNO as I do actually like its economy system over build a bajillion factories. That said, I should be able to port it over. Can you just label the sphere and prestige systems txt files and keep them isolated so even a retard like me can port it? Scripted gui is still hard for me to grasp and I only did it once before many moons ago.

Search for "superpower" for the relevant files and gfx folder and generic_ideas for the relevant modifiers. You might need to mess with the interface file a bit depending on how much neu-TNO has renamed or removed graphical assets.

Also the detente gui isn't finished yet.
What updates do you guys think TFR will get in the leadup to 1.1? I know there's a CPRF expansion and Medvedev facelift, maybe Japanese junta/republic content or PoS Germany facelift?
I hope they add tags with content soon. Fleshing things out is good but I want to live out my Tito fantasies.

South America content probably SEA. There are already SEA submods released and/or being actively developed. Hopefully West Africa gets some content too, I want to start the global Jihad of Al-bixnoodin

I just want Cascadia content.
I wonder how the endgame for a separatist cascadia would work out. Someone on the subreddit (not affiliated with the dev team and not canon) that the devs could have some sort of alliance of separatists to carve out America together, they could have another idea for it so idk.

Also Solomon Henderson talked about Mike Ma quite frequently in his manifesto so I wonder if the devs will add like a flavor event about him. Probably not.

Very unlikely. Apart from the fact that talking about 764/its offshoots while having a discord server yourself is nothing but looking for trouble, Solomon would be ~12 by the time the civil war starts and live on the other side of the country. There's no way that they mention him

One thing I can appreciate this mod for, is that at the mod knows what "e-celebs" to use or not. Like they avoided having Nick Fuentes or Vaush in their mod as leaders, simply by relegating them to just funny meme events. Same with Haz.

Technically Mike Ma is somewhat of an e-celeb but at the very least he is obscure enough to not really have an annoying fanbase like the examples I mentioned and he also keeps themselves while also maintaining a normal (by dissident right standards) public persona.

Basically the criteria is that as long they don't have an annoying fanbase or they are in a lot of drama, then they can be in the mod as a leader or in anything aside a meme event.

So yes, Solomon Henderson would 100% never be in the mod for obvious reasons LOL.
