Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Hmmm, what does kiwifarms want in a Hoi4 mod?
If you could make a hoi4 mod what would it be like and what would it be about?
Gameplay First, with actual design ideas instead of just stupid shit thrown in a pot that doesn't really cohere into anything. Take inspiration from vanilla, have early conflicts be opportunities for the wider powers to acquire allies/army and air experience. Have a clear central conflict that is going to play out, or multiple central conflicts per region.

EaW does this especially well, with everything on Griffonia revolving around preparing for, building up for, or actively resisting the resurgent Griffonian empire, while Zebrica seems to have a few different conflicts going on in the Zebrican Great lakes, the north around Colthage, and the east in the former colonies. Vanilla is focused around figuring out what side to take in ww2, how to contribute, and how to stack the cards so you come out the best. OWB also does this very well, with most of the west revolving around defending yourself from minor threats, aligning yourself with either the legion or the NCR, and waiting for the big one to kick off. Mexico preparing for a potential two front war should the legion win, combined with a more than likely aggressive power out of the south once the crazy cultists get done with the Flower Wars.

TNO could have had a clear central conflict, and probably did at some point in development, but in effect does not. The idea of a cold war between a vengeful USA and an increasingly desperate Reich played out over the most explosive and interesting decade in the cold war could have been great, but instead it's just a dumbass wankfest made by people who don't actually want to make a video game.

If you're going to rework the tech tree, do it right and so that it adds to gameplay. To use the navy as an example, You could have a cool dichotomy going on where America invests into a more or less OTL carrier/medium ship fleet that is more balanced, while Germany takes lessons from it's wartime experiences and heavily invests in extremely long range missile submarines combined with a small but capable light carrier fleet. Is it realistic, fuck no, but it's fun, and adds to gameplay, and illustrates the inherent differences between our world and one where the nazis won, and you don't even have to write some autistic blurb about it in some dumb event, it's all done without words!

No mod would be complete without this guy. One path could involve Mike and his infinite sockpuppet army taking over the world and everyone else makes a truce and puts an end to his pedophillic schizophrenic megalomania. Even the worse of enemies would team up against this demon.

TNO Italy team just announced they're cutting the Red Italy paths from 9 to 6. This decision was made months ago but announced now ? Weird but okay.
Italy team sometimes has a bit of a problem comprehending they're making content for TNO in the first place.
Attached is a raised skit about dem-Italy by a PW team member (who knows - knows), dated ~summer 2022 (can't be arsed to check now).

Julius Deutsch's portrait is definitely not Kaiserredux's best work.
Probably not, that honor goes to End of a New Beginning, a mod that apparently spans from the 1850's to the 2050's. They seem to have shortened it down to the 1930's though.
Going back to this comment, at least the Taiping rebellion is fun to play as in End of a New Beginning. There is nothing in the latest version of Millennium Dawn that's really all that fun.

When I first played TNO I thought it was going to be a series of escalating proxy wars, first in South Africa, then Asia, the Middle East etc. Nope. Just a little war in SA and that’s it. The war for oil could have been expanded into another great little side conflict, but instead it’s just over before it begins.

EaW is unironically the best mod. They’ve managed to keep the heart of HOI (big ole wars) while incorporating plot, side content, secret paths and new features (which aren’t bullshit economy systems that no one enjoys). I was shocked at how good a mod about MLP could be, didn’t give it a try for ages for that reason, but once you get past it, it’s great.

I stand firm on my hypothesis: The combination of HoI4 autism and MLP Autism caused a integer overflow error and it went all the way back to being well adjusted which meant EaW ended up being actually good.
Broke: EaW is the product of solid design principles and team management.

Woke: EaW is the product of autistic chaos theory.

Speaking of pointless. These focus artsy icons are a real waste of time considering no player is going to stare at them for more than as a second. And that's not just because of how cluttered they are, making them hard to look at, but because they're buttons.

Well, word on the street is everyone's favourite Blue Tank is back on the street.

I really hate KX's focus icons, on a single nation's focus tree you can have completely different styles of focus depending on the branch and it makes it just look very gaudy.
Different devs with different approaches to GFX working on each path. You end up with radically different looking focus icons for the same country.
