Treating alt history as serious business is basically how their community ended up like this in the first place.I really enjoy the mod despite the bullshit behind it. The Russia part of it is fun as fuck, only retards treat alt history as serious fuckin business
on another note
LONG LIVE THE MARSHALL, TO SERVE RUSSIA!
I would slightly defend the mod in that the only way Speer actually turns liberal is if the reformists take over and sideline him (he can rule as a regular Nazi as well), but the story still isn't that well written regardless. The fact that the game is full of extremist wish fulfillment makes it a real lolpasture. The HOI4 community generates some absolutely crazy slapfights and content that somehow finds a way to make a mod about the My Little Pony universe not automatically the craziest shit put out there. From what little I know the EaW mod is wall to wall fan fiction but it's also never made someone buy a nazi hoodie or create an 'ideal' ending where post-fascist victory Germany fully recognizes the LGBTQSPEER peoples and that's great. It ends up coming out as equally stupid which is an achievement in itself.
This game has Nazis and communists in it, so the real ones play it.Why? HOI4 is easily the shallowest game Paradox has ever made, even Stellaris now has more depth after the big economy update.
What's the nuke system like? Cold War: Iron Curtain for HOI4 is underway and adds new economic and influence systems along with WMDs, but it's clearly unfinished at the moment.Sad. I play a game with Chinese in it because I am Chinese. Cold War Expanded is the greatest mod for any PDOX game hands down, you cannot change my mind

Not bad, I guess, but not great either. You can send nuclear ultimata, launch second strikes, develop the three legs of the nuclear triad, etc., but it's all done through decision. The builtin system has kind of retarded nuke effects (they don't decay and stick around for 20 years). I submitted a patch to model decaying ambient fallout via expiring stacking modifiers (one for 500 rads/hr, 50, 5, etc..., following the 7-10 rule), but the fuckers rejected my suggestions out of hand without reading the reasoning behind them. What's the nuke system like? Not counting the numbers of warheads is a major flaw. Does the AI use nuclear weapons if attacked? Not bad, I guess, but not great either. One thing I'd also like to work on is modelling discrete levels of nuclear stockpiles (so you have to pay more money for 4k warheads than 200) because then you could get stuff like SALT / START / START II where each side reduces warhead counts and it has an effect on what kind of nuclear exchange you can launch. But fuck those guys if they're going to get any more of my work, it'd be for my personal use only
Yes, if nuclear powers start losing badly they'll issue white peace or we nuke you ultimata. If they're winning but get high war exhaustion they'll issue surrender or we nuke you ultimata, but only against other great powers. The USSR also gets random events about fake radar pickups which might be first strikes for lulz. There are also chemical weapon and biological weapon systems, which you can develop and use the same way.Not counting the numbers of warheads is a major flaw. Realistically speaking it should escalate very quickly if WW3 breaks out. Nuclear weapons would have been used at once, within a few hours.Yes, if nuclear powers start losing badly they'll issue white peace or we nuke you ultimata. Instead of counting warheads the mod gives you a different attack capability for each leg you have of the nuclear triad (land, sea, air), and each one has a different strike effect. If you only have land missiles you can only hit the target's capital and 2nd biggest city, if you have only submarine missiles you can only hit major cities, if you have all 3, you can hit pretty much every high-pop province.
Not a full countervalue exchange, not all wars are WW3, and most countries had an explicit no-first-use policy. You can use tactial nukes to get army bonuses without setting off a full exchange.Realistically speaking it should escalate very quickly if WW3 breaks out. Massive retaliation was the first American doctrine in the event of a Soviet assault on West Germany, and even in the case of no first use, blowing up the whole front line with tactical nuclear weapons would definitely count. Essentially I don't think there should be armies storming across Europe in a cold war game. Not a full countervalue exchange, not all wars are WW3, and most countries had an explicit no-first-use policy. OK, go into the modfiles in your copy and change the decision will_do threshold so warscore is like -1 or -5, then you can be happyMassive retaliation was American doctrine in the event of a Soviet assault on West Germany, and even in the case of no first use, blowing up the whole front line with tactical nuclear weapons would definitely count.
Does deterrence work so the wars don't start to begin with? As in, the Soviet AI knows not to invade West Germany because of the extreme consequences of doing so?OK, go into the modfiles in your copy and change the decision will_do threshold so warscore is like -1 or -5, then you can be happy
"real ones" these are the people who flip flop between both extremes and treat their chosen political affiliation like an rpg alignment. Hoi4 attracts these losers like Discord does, an opportunity to play out their autistic fantasies. This game has Nazis and communists in it, so the real ones play it.
