A lot of the old guard might have left for other games with Paradox DLC whoring and casualizing their games. I once heard HOI4 described as a "grand-strategy game for people who really dislike grand-strategy games" which seems pretty accurate to me.

They went too far in the other direction after Hoi III, like the production system and division modifications are godsent but otherwise i would prefer something similar to hoi 2 Armageddon, or even better Darkest hour.

might be bias but, coming from someone who has about 999+ hours into it, its pretty damn good, and so is TNO, it just happens that the devs are total trannie dimwits

TNO for the most part is good, as is vanilla to an extent. Most of the nations will at least keep you occupied pressing a button on speed five while waiting for shit, except for current Italy and Japan, both of which are either due to be or are being reworked. My only real problem is that the quality of DLC has dropped off a cliff and the last two have basically contributed nothing of real value.

The mods seem very ban heavy and if you post links to this site or to the leaks. like i did about the mods being autistic you will get banned big surprise I know. TNO Redux was fairly tame but they got what they asked for in banning it without reason, leading to the people fulfilling the TNO team's victimhood request so all is well. No wonder the community are still sucking the jannies dicks, their shrunken brains can't even come look at what was leaked and realize that the content team was barely organized and can't even make the shit they're planning on without crunch.

Each branch has some new content. Toolbox Theory and Europas Narben branches have a bit of content at the start of the game.
The "MIDNIGHT" branch features content post-taboritsky collapse.

I dont think anyone has looked at whats new in the game itself yet but the github notes show that the devs are incompatent as hell and even have Crunch time for a video game mod like they are larping at being a game studio and failing awfully at it.
a guy analyzed the github notes a few pages ago. also @slackjawed man has some great vids if you are still lost.

Then again I hear people complain about shitty office jobs where managers do nothing and boss around the interns with stupid and pedantic rules all the time so I guess if panzer wanted to use his work on TNO to get himself a real job he has all the experience he needs now.

Here's some observations I've had with mods in current year compared to a decade ago.

Ambitions are way too high these days. Modders are constantly planning projects that end up being just as big if not often smaller than the one man projects of yesteryear.
Mods have gone from being one person personal projects to multiteam endeavors.
Teams are filled with drama, and usually consist of two people who actually know how to do shit like coding and modelling while there's a 100 parasites just there to groom.
The people who actually do a lot of the work end up leaving or getting kicked, forcing the rest of the team to try and scrounge up the pieces left.
People used to constantly borrow assets from each other and repurpose existing resources, today you'll be hounded for daring to put a gun model into your mod which another modder released for free.
There was plenty of fetish and political content in modding back in the day, but modders today are way less upfront about it, releasing a mod with snake breeding while claiming to be a mature and lore friendly mod.
Discord drama is cancer.
Increasing amount of cases where publishers and developers are curating modding content.

I honestly don't think modding is in a good place. Developers have already made it difficult to mod any modern titles, and when a moddable game does release larger projects just get bogged own in the discord drama quagmire and you just end up with mods making female tits bigger.

So basically if you want to make mods
You Kick people who dont contribute.
You use others resources and demand they explicitly demand removal rather than bothering asking for permission.
Fetish and Political stuff dont know how to deal with it.
Use forum rather than discord by increasing barrier to entry.

Everyone on the team has access to the leaked documents I was a mere tester and had access to everything that got leaked, only some proposals (google doc planning how X country should be done) have some form of access restriction.
