Earlier today I did something fucking stupid and accidentally wounded myself severely.

Spoiler: Rabies fingussy

I won't go into specifics but by the grace of God no bones or muscles are damaged, and my middle finger already has a scab. But my left index finger has an axewound with no skin to cover it.

I retain sensation and movement in that finger, with no discoloration or odor. I am too afraid to go to the hospital and the bleeding has (mostly) stopped.

How fucked am I? I drowned it in hydrogen peroxide and applied napkins soaked in such, and I'm hoping ot heals at home. My only fear at this point is infection.

Mockery and advice, particularly the latter, is desperately desired.

Go to the hospital no matter how scared you are. If what you described regarding the torn skin is true, then the risk of infection is very high no matter what treatment you try at home. Infection is very, very bad.

And no, I'm not a doctor, nurse, or EMT. I am, however, an injury magnet who has had innumerable breaks, burns, sprains, hyperextensions, and stitches. Do not fuck around with hand/finger injuries.

Yeah it's only a graze wound so i can just say I cut it slicing potatoes or something. I think it only needs skin glue and antibiotics but holy fuck does it still hurt.

So... it's been a while. Did you get is sutured or not? Also hydrogen peroxide was probably a bad idea because of the amount of damage it does to the healthy tissue - it's not just bacteria that it kills.

If you got Butterfly bandages or SteriStrips you could use those at a pinch to pull the wounds closed. Get some Tea Tree & Manuka Honey healing balm to help with healing and prevent infection (both Tea tree oil and Manuka honey are antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic while not damaging the living tissue - unlike hydrogen peroxide). But you really really need to close those wounds first.

Best not leave it open for too long: deeper infection could result in more damage - especially to the muscle tissue/ligaments. Bandaids aren't gonna cut it: you need stitches (even adhesive ones) or skin glue to keep the wounds closed so they heal properly.
