racing games - no not racist games you fucking ni

Ubisoft announced that The Crew Motorfest will get the island of Maui added to the game in November, as a free update.

There also appears to be a bridge connecting the two islands:

If only there was an easy way to travel between the actual Hawaiian Islands IRL, that won't get killed off by dumb NIMBYers, loud minority natives, and other government redtape... (RIP Superferry) Heck, an acutal bridge like that to connect the islands IRL would actually be worth it, compared to the massive money sink that is Oahu's Rail System, which is only partially open, and the end of it is still TBD.

FM2023 has release their Update 9, which is focused on Endurance racing. There is also a Porsche 963 combo pack of the said car and racing suit, but it is available for free only until June 19. After that, you'll have to pay $5 to get it. It does appear that you can claim the combo pack, even if you don't own FM2023.

I don't like how racing games are trying to emphasize stuff like "story", when all you do is drive cars.
I think it could work. It should work. Need For Speed Most Wanted is considered a classic in part because of the cutscenes/story.

The problem is that since The Run, stories in these games have been terrible. It's not like it has to be much. Most Wanted, Carbon, and Undercover, it mostly served as a reason you were street racing, and to give your rivals a bit of personality, but these new games can't even get the basics right, let alone extras like a story.

I feel a better example of a good racing game plot would be Midnight Club: LA. It's realistic and not too cheesy with a photorealistic city.

How does The Crew: Motorfest compare to the Test Drive series? Solar Crown included.

Not sure if I asked this before, but search says no.

Can anyone recommend any racing management games?

I love playing GT4 in B-Spec mode, but I've played it a few times. I know there's GT5 and the GT4 Randomizer mod I could look into. I also played Grand Prix Story. It's a fun, but simple little game. It lacks depth however. The company makes a bunch of non-racing games with the same template.

I've heard of Motorsport Manager, that seems a little too autistic for me. There's also Golden Lap which seems more my style, but is currently just a demo. The other problem is both games focus on F1 which is a bit boring, and as far as I can tell you can't customize your characters, but beggers can't be choosers.

TDUSC's Game Director Guillaume Guinet is doing damage control in response to the severely unpolished state of the Demo, by saying that it's an "older build" of the game. Since EA loves to use that excuse in response to glitches shown in previews/trailers/Open Betas/livestreams/"content creator" videos, i.e. Battlefield 2042 "being on a 3 month or so older build during its Beta" and The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories constantly saying that it's "not final product during the livestream and in content creator videos", and the fact that he said that "there won't be any more added content to the base game that isn't already in the demo on launch," aside from the usual live service updates post-launch, is a massive red flag for the game, as if the severely unpolished Demo wasn't enough.

He also said that car prices were doubled, which also makes them wanting to one-up Gran Turismo in the grinding department.

TDUSC's Game Director Guillaume Guinet was interviewed about the game, and discussed various topics such as the always online requirement, and the inevitable End-of-Life of the game:

The "we don't have a solution yet" for the End-of-Life question, means that they don't seem to have a plan to have the game still playable after the servers shutdown. And the rumored Nintendo Switch port probably won't happen either, if the current unoptimized state of the game is taken into account.

Series 35 of Forza Horizon 5 has been revealed, which includes the return of Kia with the EV6, the Ioniq5 N, the Mustang Dark Horse, and a Universal movies Car Pack with the Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler, KITT, and 3 versions of the Back to the Future DeLorean (and they don't fly):

The GR Yaris and Taycan Cross Turismo are also welcome additions, as hatches and wagons are always great additions to racing games. The Kia Stinger is still MIA though.

With all of the racing games that have the new Ford Mustang, i.e. Forza Horizon 5, The Crew Motorfest, Need For Speed Unbound, and even Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has the new Mustang (I think), it makes you wonder what Kaz is doing with GT7, and how they haven't been able to add newer cars that other racing games have, i.e. the new Mustang, to the game.

And Asphalt, the mobile racing game series that is SUPER PAY-2-WIN to levels that Kaz can only dream of doing, is taking pre-orders for a "Legends Unite" game, for $35:

Sad to see TDU being another victim of AAAA gaming. At this point, just pirate all the classics and you're set, doubt anything truly good will come out anytime soon(and if it will, they will just shut down the servers like they did with The Crew)

Midnight Club 2 also has all the plot any racing game has ever needed. Characterization of each rival with humor, good music, some very basic exposition to explain why you're moving from city to city. Some of it is a little cheesy but you can tell it's always in good spirit and the devs themselves were having fun with it. Plus the gameplay is fucking amazing and really fun of course.
They don't make games like that anymore.

This game looks sick.

I'm getting back in to racing games after a long time since playing GT3, GT4 and NFSU way back when. I'm now emulating GT4, have Assetto Corsa downloaded and am considering maybe getting the most recent Forza Motorsport. The online component of Forza looks the most fun whereas AC looks to be more of a single player mod-friendly experience with good VR support (though I'll have to actually fucking play them to verify). Gran Turismo 4 just has a place near my heart.

What other racing games on the market are good nowadays? With respect to online activity, mod support and depth of the sim mechanics.

Been playing Grid on PC. It crashes a lot, but damn it's fun and still holds up. Only thing I don't like is the yellow filter.

These things are contradictory.

Apologies for doubleposting, but it looks like Rockstar truly has given up / doesn't care about blatant copyright infringement anymore with new car additions, as the newly added Bollokan Envisage in GTA Online is literally just the Hyundai N Vision 74 with a couple more aero bits:

In stock form without any body mods:

Another example would be Driver: San Fransisco, also a rare example of a racing game that actually tried to innovate by trying a concept that I would usually heard in some dev commentary video.

And also to be completely honest with you, I enjoyed the 2015 storyline (even if only for a bit) cheesy as fuck as it was, I enjoyed the overall chill vibe of the game just being a part of a group of friends trying to make a name of themselves on the racing scene.

Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted on December 15. The game's DLC, notably the Hot Wheels Legends Car Pack, were already delisted, so they are no longer purchasable, except via 3rd-party CD Key sites or using "legal backups". The game will go on sale on both Steam, and the Microsoft Store, prior to the delisting.

So the changes to licensing means that Forza games get delisted after 6 years, up from 4 for previous games. So FH5 is expected to get delisted in 2027, and FM2023 in 2029.

I remember hearing people be wowed that your custom cars appear in FMV cutscenes.

How is it as far as piracy/archives go? Does it have an always online component?

I got Project Cars 2 just before it was delisted out of the blue. I don't have the DLC though.

I heard that the "legally borrowed" versions of FH games are somewhat playable, but I'm not sure if the online functionality works.

And here are the "Backstage Cars" that will be available in FH4, once the Festival Playlist is retired in August. The Pre-Order cars (except for the Porsche one, which is an Eliminator level prize) will be available:
