It never ceases to amaze me how when he gets hit with shit, he fails around like a bendy arm tube man shouting "I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!" No shit, Sherlock. If you had blocked, you wouldn't have gotten hit. And half the time you see him get hit and he's saying "I WAS BLAHKING!" you can see his character's animation winding up for an attack, but the opponent's attack goes off first. Because there's such incredible lag and lag tactics his reaction time is dumpster-fire-tier.

It is a funny thought that people are just blowing off the rage theme and are simply just nominating games they want to just see him play all together. That I can get behind. I'm entertained by the fact that he's raging over people not picking the right things for him to rage at. If he's already upset and making a fuss because he doesn't want to play the games, then they're good picks for a rage-a-thon event. You can't say you want something that makes you mad, then complain about trolls in the same breath because that's generally the exact reaction trolls are trying to elicit in the first place. It's one of the reasons why a rage based event is stupid. It sounds like what Phil was aiming for is a bad game marathon, or possibly a frustrating game marathon. Either are pretty valid options and something other streamers manage to pull off for special events. Bad games are fun to stream because you and the chat can riff on them and enjoy watching a trainwreck. Frustrating games, for more talented/skilled streamers are entertaining because you're seeing someone overcome a challenge. Even that can be turned into more of a community based thing if you pick the right game.

Phil's suggestion for Mario Maker 2 falls more into the frustrating category. Rage can be part of that, sure, but the big difference is when you beat the frustrating thing you feel good about yourself and the rage goes away from overcome the challenge. If you're making a whole marathon around rage, you want something where you're angry the whole time. Seeing someone actually mad about gaming is generally undesirable. That's why AVGN and the like play angry characters. You know they're not actually mad and playing it up for the sake of comedy. It works for certain entertainers. But, much like his "King of Hate" title, Phil also boasts about being the realest person ever, so he couldn't go that angle, he'd have to actually get mad, which is generally only something his detractors want to see. Even if Phil recognized he wanted to do a frustrating game marathon, it wouldn't work because he's just too bad at games. Using the Mario Maker example again, there are some streamers that can make running tough levels look fun, but for Phil it just drags on because he's basically blindly jumping around until he just happens to get lucky and complete the level. It's boring, and any "rage" brought on through the frustration isn't entertaining. Even for detractors, it tends to get boring pretty quick due to how repetitive it is.

The other reason it doesn't work is Phil's default stance towards a game tends to be rage. It isn't like this is a new concept to him, I mean, he calls himself the King of Hate. Even his "chill" games he gets angry at. As others have pointed out, there's technically less rage each game because he's only playing each for a brief period versus the usual extended rage from playing the same game for a longer period. It won't come close to that classic era of Phil rage from something like Scarface.

It's just another wasted opportunity for him to not watch TIHYDPs or other detractor khantent. In this case to get angry, in other cases to totally debunk them; they are just blind slander anyway, riiiight? No they aren't and this sucker knows it, his narrative of the idiot lying trolls is in complete opposite contrast to those videos who simply snip out his dead air and other boring parts. Which isn't bad in itself, he could make even bigger money by offering his last remaining dignity and allow people their genuine fun, so they will switch from detractor restreams to his as they get what they pay for. I mainly play RPGs, and none are really rage inducing unless they're complete shit. They should be picking platformers or games which are known for being shit.

I'd recommend Spelunky, a Contra game, classic Castlevania, stuff where you get the classic "Doode, bullshit!". Also a management game where losing stuff actually matters, FTL etc.

Whichever way it goes, I pray it's not another Dark Souls run.

If he hosted a small call-in shtreem where someone could donate 20 bucks for a 5 minute session to call in and say whatever they wanted to him, he'd clear so much fucking bank it would make his gout spin. While he'd never learn to laugh at himself, it would be the hyper version of when he got heckled on shtreem by the guys in the Friday the 13th game about being "the guy."
