The first season was overall enjoyable, despite some unfortunate moments

like the robots deciding not to tell anyone about the Neaderthals, and the "They're not evolving, they're de-evolving" line

But the second season has shown several red flags already, especially in the episode commentaries.

Explaining away the voices and visions in the first season as "a signal" really takes away from the mysteriousness of the setting, even though it was obvious something technological was going on because it fixated on the necromancer, and the "People feel joy around Marcus because he has radioactive necromancer eyes inside him" and "The oceans are acidic because they pass through the planetary core" stuff in the commentaries does not inspire any confidence in the quality of the writing yet to come this season.

I fear the Ridley Scott curse is alive and well. I hope it isn't, but I fear it is. I do appreciate that they're sticking to their guns by making the atheists even more reprehensible than the Mythraics, that's got to be activating some almonds out there.

Thus far, all i can ask of this show is that it stay consistent with the extreme alien atmosphere that was set in the first season. If the writing room is dead set on the Arthur C Clarke “magic is just technology we do not yet comprehend” principle, then there’s nothing more to do than hope that the extraordinary mystical shit in the show doesn’t break into the “casual technological miracle” mode of sci fi, where everything that happens is simply taken for granted, and not as a function of exploring a new (to the characters) planet.

But the second season has shown several red flags already, especially in the episode commentaries.

This is why i don’t bother with “this is how it works” commentary for sci fi in particular. I can’t stand listening to people huff their own farts, especially when it comes to tiny aspects of a narrative driven show. Isaac Asimov is turning in his grave.

Seems like the second season is opening up a lot of substories. Superficially, the season is still interesting compared to other shows, but I hope the plot is actually going somewhere and the snake things are explained decently. Still no word or mention of the original snake thing that came out of Mother's mouth and the pond monster that attacks Vrille deserves an explanation later on.

This show is going to end up like Lost. All of the mystery based subplots make no fucking sense, and instead of trying to make at least a half-assed answer to it the writers leave it open and start a new one. And was it said how many seasons there would be to the show? We're not even done with S2 and there's already a undefeatable apocalypse monster flying around; it'd be hard for anybody to ratchet up the stakes from that for future seasons.

The side plot with preggo girl was fucking trash and ruined Father's character. You can't really expect me to believe he sided with the snotty cunt on that decision, caregiving protocols? fuck're those? It was made worse by the writers making the adopting camp disappear which only happened to place her on that fucking beach, I guarrantee it was written in retroactively too. Like I figured the black dude was gonna get it in the end, that was way too on the nose, but getting there was a total shitshow, it was all forced melodrama garbage.

Also Campion sucks and I hate him.

My guess is the producers aim to wrap it up in S3 if they end on cliffhangers this season and it isn't cancelled, but that also opens up the show for more subplots and muck.

My thoughts can be summed up as basically that I'm right about this being a new Lost, and that whoever is thinking about watching the series shouldn't waste their time.

What bugs me is these robots are supposed to be smart robots but they just make really bad and poorly reasoned decisions. Like, Father should have knocked Lammia out and reprogrammed/rewired her when he realized she gave birth to a snake and then put the thing down. They also take a rando relic of a robot's word when weird shit is going on and there's evidence of early colonization that went south. idk I'll watch S3 just to see how badly they ruin it.

Yeah people who are "Church bad" are ignorant as fuck of history.

They think every Church was like Frollo from Hunchback just burning witches and apostates when in reality the church was the biggest proponent of the Renaissance and routinely butted heads with corrupt monarchs.

Most people forget that Pope John Paul the second. Was also an actual scientist than just another pope. He argued that evolution didn't contradict the Bible and even said that it would foolish to think God didn't create more life on other planets. He's also one of the most beloved popes to other exist with many Catholics looking up to him. He's one of my father's favorite popes since my father is technically a scientist and a man of faith you get the picture why. So in a way you could argue its one of the reasons I really don't get the science vs religion debate because I was raised in believing both.
