I am going to assume he is being sincere. Has he really reached levels of realization to some degree? He does seem to see at least some of his mistakes were, well, mistakes. Does he have enough of a social life now @Marvin with these people you mentioned he hangs around with that as friends tend to do, discuss their lives and seek opinions or input etc.? I don't know, he seems like he is either on some heavy Valium or he does kind of feel/see how he became a laughingstock? I just get a vibe he has some people to talk to in a real way now and maybe he is getting and taking good suggestions to heart or becoming aware. I cant see him reaching this depth of self-reflection on his own.

It's not that Chris is getting better, he's just getting older. He's claiming he should have worked more on Sonichu, yet his updates on the comic are few and far in between.

Yes, he is, and will be, prone to saying stupid things and being lazy. Doubtful that may ever change.
Also you mention getting older. I think we all agree Chris' physical age compared to mental is probably a 20 year diff now. Is it possible he is not as enamored and mired in Sonichu as he was back when his mental/physical ages were somewhat closer? Or if he does indeed have some friends IRL that he hangs around with now, he is enjoying human company and doesn't need to sit in his room drawing Sonichu all the time? So far, he hasn't gone overboard with his con adventure with constant postings and tweets like last time.
Something just comes across different to me with those comments he made. Like did the light bulb start to flicker a bit inside his head, or does he have people he can truly trust in his sphere.
@Marvin, is Chris heavily sedated or does he have regular contact with people who are true and honest friends? I assume he didn't go to the con by himself?

He couldn't, it's only in our modern day world of e-begging and patreonbux that drawing Sonichu is anywhere near "profitable".
If Chris had spent more time hauling the attraction sign and less time drawing furry fanfiction there's like a 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance some lass would've pity fucked him.

I think the stuff we see posted might be implemented soon. I’m kinda happy it’s no longer ponies, but the autistic collage of stuff from the Idea guy may be somewhat boring.

I think it's Chris just mellowing out because of age, a lack of major antagonists (like Clyde or Liquid) and possibly medication.
I don't think it's his friends, that situation has been static for awhile.
Like the lack of antagonists is a big one, I think. Chris reacts badly to being fucked with. He's never been a very mature person. But still, it's not hard to be mellow and introspective when you get a break from all the julaying you used to receive.
