I think that Chris, like many modern zoomers, just can't visualize in his head what he's reading. Hell, he can't even remember what he looks like without first having to look at his reflection for hours. The most he can do is inserting Sonic characters in children books.

Chris is not normally good at multitasking, but when he was preparing for Everfree NW by drawing commissions and fucking his mom, he also autistically highlighted several chapters of the Warhol book with different colors based on how he felt about each sentence. So I figure he can read, he just frequently chooses more childish pursuits.

In jail, Chris read parts of the Bible and Quran, an Eragon book, and a collection of modern adaptations of Jane Austen's books, and probably some other things.

I've been thinking about the possibility of a Japan trip, and so i googled conventions in Japan. They have all sorts of conventions that weeaboos would love, but I didn't see one that was specific to ponies. It's possible that Chris thinks it would be easier to get into a convention there than in the US where he gets banned from everything. Or maybe he wants to go for some reason other than ponies, like Hyperdimension Neptunia. He would need to get a passport, and that's not going to be easy for him.

Other countries that do have upcoming pony conventions include Canada, Germany, England, and China. Again, he'd need a passport, and they might just ban him too.

Edit: Additional context - this is a message from Keffals that Chris recieved sometime prior to his Second Coming and that he posted online during the Cosmic Saga. As Chris used the wording from this message in the description of the Barb video, it means that he lied about not fucking Barb even though he knows he is not innocent.
