@CoolGuyHitler about a week of evenings. The worst part was figuring out our embroidery machine. I struggled with that. I photoshopped the cutie mark and digitized them and I used twilight sparkle's eyes. My mom is a seamstress so I just have access to the tools. Fabric was on sale too so I lucked out.

I think he just has it because it looks nice. Decorating with gems is a huge step up from decorating with Pokemon McDonalds toys or whatever.
