It's true. At least for Chris. All the other people you mentioned had talent. The other problem facing the Internet is that it's quite vast. Almost anyone with real talent can make a huge fortune for a lifetime and fade into obscurity, while Chris would still be working on an irregular schedule for pennies in comparison. You really can't compare Chris to these people because he has no mainstream appeal due to being a socially repugnant ape with no objective talent or charisma.

Chris meanwhile has a deep rabbit hole full of lore that sucks you in and makes you glad that you are not him. He has thousands upon thousands of people watching his every move. If he tweets, it’s on here. If he has another breakdown like he did at Too Many Games, that’s Youtube gold for a few weeks and new people who find out about Chris and get sucked into his story.

Like it or not, Chris is a fixture in internet history that will still be discussed long after he is gone. So in that sense, he is like Basquiat and Warhol in that people know who he is and has even become a minor celebrity.

Plus, it’s the art scene. Anyone with a known name make can make a lot off of money off of a shitty painting or a display.

Case in point, here is a display by Andrew Hemmingway. A guy who has made a career out of painting and taking pictures of toilet paper rolls just because he saw some kind of meaning behind them.

Chris’s early work has a lot of meaning to it, because it let us in on what type of person he was and had people wondering what he was going to reveal about himself next.

Then there is the art he produced while he was transitioning which let us have a glimpse into his mindset at the time.

I would def encourage you to spend your entire life savings on crayon drawings of sonic the hedgehog meeting with frasier. The purpose of art is not just to be good, when you think of "good" art, people think of commercial art like Thomas Kinkade.

The purpose of art is to evoke emotion, and provoke imagination. It's also supposed to be original. You can take something that already exists and turn it into art making it original, but you can't trace it line by line, slap boobs on it, and claim it's original. It's also meant to have style and substance. Chris' art contains other people's style and substance, and they're copied very poorly.

I wasn’t defending Chris’s art. It sucks. We all know that.

My original statement, was that in the future Chris’s art could be worth money in the future after he passes, because a lot of times an artist isn’t recognized until After he or she passes.
