Megathread Random Thoughts & Questions - ADF

Vocabulary question: What is a "deadname"? Does it mean no one else can use that name, ever? Does it simply mean he will throw a hissy fit if you refer to him by it?

What has Phil told the public about the situation with his parents' divorce and subsequent custody battles? It's probably discussed in the old thread, but digging through it would take a while.

Don't think so. He mostly focused on the idea that his dad is an asshole, when by all means he clearly isn't.

It's basically your old identity before you switch to your new one. Most people who give a shit when you use them either want to control information flow to feel like they have power, gain asspats from their compadres for spouting the party line, or as mentioned are crooks and don't want you to bring up that fact.

When did ADF turn on the Jews? And when he did, why did he keep a Hebrew name?

I'm not surprised in the slightest he did, given that anti-Israeli/pro-Palestinian is hot in far left circles, but he stuck to his fake Judaism thing for awhile.

I've noticed that Phil acknowledges he's fat from time to time. Does this mean he's one of those "healthy at any size" people?

It's something trans people use to refer to their birth names. If you were to call a trans person by their old name it will usually make them angry/uncomfortable/annoyed, and some people even go as far as saying it is an act of transphobic violence, even if you do it by accident

Where did Dobe come from? I know it started during his weeb phase but where did he culturally appropriate it from?

He got it from the character Sasuke, who called Naruto that to mock his lack of smarts. Phil here's using it to refer to having his own Naruto to fuck basically.

Between CWC and ADF, whose favorite anime is the least heterosexual? Naruto or Sailor Moon?

That's a toughie. Naruto's filler ramps up homoerotic tension between two twelve to fifteen year old boys who happen to be child soldiers based on a one-off joke, and Sailor Moon has legit lesbians. I'm going to just barely say Naruto, because the titular character invented a fanservice plus genderswap attack to offput people and once used it to get a perverted old man to train him for a fight Rocky style.

Oh, and it has this:

So I'm just starting to get into ADF, and I was wondering if he has any redeeming qualities? Even Chris and Tyce are weirdly likable in their own ways, but I'm not seeing it with ADF so far.

Every positive thing I can think about ADF relates to things he's not doing. He doesn't own a pet. He doesn't live with his parents anymore. He isn't in a relationship with anybody.

As far as things he actually does? He's got zip. He's one of the few people on Earth Chris-Chan could use as a troll shield.

Funny thing is, it wasn't that long ago he had a leg up on our autistic hero: He was employed for a significant period of time, he didn't have to pay a hooker to lose his virginity, he acted oblivious rather than defensive to troll bait, and he actually interacted with other human beings who weren't trolls.

Those days are long gone. It'd even be easier for Chris to theoretically put his life together than ADF. Chris at least has a roof over his head, no tattoos, and is at least trying his hand at entrepreneurship. Both men will still fail, but Chris is ahead in the same way a man trapped in a mineshaft is ahead of a man trapped in the Earth's Core.

I find that one of the key differences is as follows: while Chris has landed his life in its current status due to childlike ignorance of the world, Phil is consciously aware of his responsibilities to society but has taken active steps to reject them, like blowing his tugboat on ugly and offensive tattoos. Chris, therefore, can still "grow up" (optimistic) and begin his "adult" life, but Phil has committed his efforts to destroying himself.

Which is more amusement for us.
