Rob Bell is a pretty top shelf lawyer for the region, and well outside of what Chris can afford. He certainly would be unlikely to get better.

And he is pretty unlikely to have Rob Bell now. If he did, Bell would have already entered an appearance on the docket, which he hasn't.

I seriously doubt Bell would actually give him any advice in a case where he isn't representing him, because Chris is likely to misinterpret it and do something dumb instead, and Bell would just be setting himself up for an annoying, albeit frivolous malpractice suit.
 
Rob Bell is just another NPC to Chris, he is hoping the like is part of the dialogue options that will give him a Get out of jail free card and to collect China when he passes Go and he isn't really bothered about the XP.

You got that all wrong, man.

Since Bell was unable to produce a desirable conclusion to the Stonewall-Snyder case (ie: Chris as new owner of the Game Place, Snyder behind bars, MLW banished from the lands and trolls in a pit of fire), Bell now owes Chris services until Chris' demand for said services is satiated.

Probably not, but if being paid, would administer asspats and smooth the process over somewhat. He'd also be more likely to find some procedural screwup that could be used to derail the case somehow.

It's just a minor case, though, of the sort the PD's office handles every day.

1) Because he knows him. Chris doesn't know that many people.

2) Could have been an accidental click. Could have been a policy to like friend's birthdays. Could have just been a well-meaning friendly gesture. At times he was annoyed by Bell's lawying, but it never seemed to develop into a long-lasting grudge.

3) I don't know. He has a lawyer. AFAIK, Chris hasn't felt there were problems with the new lawyer, and he wasn't overwhelmed with joy by Bell's lawying. And I am not sure he is dumb enough to think if he "likes" his birthday he will get free legal advice.

Well, Bell played the autistic manchild card (as in literally calling him an autistic manchild in court), and arguably, that was responsible for Chris not getting any jail time. Of course, just as arguably, having a PD would have had the same result.

The fact is, though, that Blarb chose to spend a lot of money having Bell fruitlessly fight the charges even though everyone was more or less agreed on the facts of what actually happened. There was no material dispute that while the car was in the control of the defendants, it came into contact with Snyder through voluntary actions of the defendants.

But that stupid choice wasn't up to Bell. It was Blarb and Chris who decided to pay him to make a futile defense instead of just seeking a favorable plea bargain in the first place.

If I feel any sympathy for anyone other than Snyder in this situation, it's Bell, but still, fuck that guy. He was well compensated to do his stupid shit and endure the subsequent weenery. That's more than Snyder can say.

Pretty sure Chris knows Rob Bell isn't representing him because Barb probably bitched about Rob Bell's costs at some point.

It would be normal for Christian to realize some appreciation for Rob Bell in the wake of his recent law troubles. I'm sure Rob Bell helped him a lot more than his current public defender. When we went to that courtroom it looked like all the public defenders didn't look like they were doing much and barely looked at their clients. They just sort of told them to get up there, presented their paperwork to the judge and told them to go sit back down again. I suppose it's possible Christian realizes Rob Bell did what he could for him and now appreciates that. He's capable of minor amounts of empathy towards people he realizes were nice to him.

Well, with #2, I was more talking about how Chris treats his ween inspectors, of which Rob Bell was once one.

Chris is genuinely appreciative sometimes, he just doesn't realize that Rob Bell did anything extensive for him.

There's not really much to do at one of those cattle call hearings. Everyone there pretty much just wants to get it over with.

Yeah, Bell is a very good lawyer. I was honestly surprised that Charb hired him the first time around, although that was way before I knew that they spent literally everything Bob left them on things related to that case.

You gotta be prepared, dude. You don't wanna waddle down the mall when suddenly a flock of boyfriend-free trib-happy lesbians show up, ready to rub taints with you and then realizing you didn't shave your body hair that day.

Also, maybe he just thinks it feels nice, it's not necessarily something he does for others. Considering we're talking about Chris here, it's fairly certain it's not for others.
