I guess I think that if I were Chris' father at 18, I couldn't just assume he would be a lifelong fuck-up.

Would the galpals had tolerated young Chris if they he'd be obsessing over them 10 years later? There was probably no way to predict how Chris would turn out in an unstructured environment? Borb couldn't threaten PVCC with any lawsuits about their failure to find Chris some new galpals or easy classes.

"The Minimums are getting Steep."

Have we heard anything about Chris and Barbs credit card debts recently?

What was Bob like as a parent? We hear a lot about Barb's manipulative and emotionally abusive ways.

While Bob seems better, it seems he may have been somewhat mean and abusive too, but in more subtle ways.

I was just watching "THAT IS MY HOUSE!" and was somewhat surprised at how harsh and bitter Bob was to Chris. While I get not wanting your messy house shown on the internet, you'd think the natural response would be "time to get some help cleaning this out!"

Instead, Bob blames Chris for bringing attention to the problem and demands he "get all a' that stuff off of there.... tonight!"

How did Borb even find out about it btw?

Also, the thing that really troubled me was him telling Chris that he just "stuck a knife in (Borb's) back and killed them." That sort of thing seems like something only an emotionally abusive person would say, and it wasn't even true. What actually stuck a knife in Bob's back and killed I'm was Barb's hoarding and his refusal to move out of that squalid home.

No, Bob and Chris couldn't touch the hoard or Barb would go apeshit. Bob was trying to manage a (literally) shitty situation. Admittedly he might've been a little harsh with Chris, but he seemed to think that the health department would condemn 14BC.

You can't really do that with a hoarder. They're mentally ill. And usually not in a way you can just have them committed. So he was basically helpless to actually do anything about it, short of moving out or forcing her to move out, and he was a tired old man on death's door.

Not that he couldn't have also been abusive. Apparently, he had been a mean drunk for years. But all he really knew was he'd been publicly humiliated by his autistic, retarded son.

What is Bob supposed to do in that situation?

As others have said, dealing with the hoard is very difficult.

Let's accept his premise that he needs to get that video taken down as soon as possible, and that Chris has the ability to do that. Not quite true, but he had an octogenarian understanding of how the internet works. He went in, explained very clearly that Chris had to do it and he wasn't taking no for an answer. I am sure he is used to Chris whining and objecting to things, but this time he had to put his foot down.

I guess in general I object to the categorization that anyone who raises their voice or expresses anger is somehow being abusive. Chris was in his late 20's. Bob was pissed, and had every reason to be. He didn't hit Chris, he didn't threaten to kick him out. He just got angry at him.

The fact that the Chandlers never revoked his internet privileges astounded me. I know Chris was an adult and would have thrown a shitfit, but fuckdamn that was the obvious solution. They just seemed to think ignoring his problems all throughout life would work out.

Bob kind of did, for a while.

But look at how that works. Not even Kayla's parents can do that, and she's barely legally an adult. Even back then before the ubiquity of wireless devices, Chris had alternate means of access, and he was a sped.

To me, Chris has a much more lax attitude than, say, ADF. He still rages about pointless things, but he has a sense of humor about Kiwi Farms watching his every move. For example, he called the Kiwi Farms the trollin' farms. I don't think Hoovs would do such a thing.

Eh, the internet was never a big problem as far as the Chandlers could tell. We find the trolling to be a huge issue because that's all we can see from our perspective.

Chris' day to day life is a lot more boring.

To the Chandlers, the internet was a few, extremely short, prank phone calls a month. Even then, they blamed it on people Chris knew IRL, like Megan.

From what I've gathered, Bob was more mean than outright manipulative, although the whole Cole situation makes one wonder. Troll interactions generally found him rather pleasant, but he was far better at passing as relatively normal when he wanted to than Barb.

I think the whole CADD program was Bob's last attempt at trying to get Chris to do something meaningful with his life. After that, I think he realised his son was a lazy failure with no motivation other than vidja and getting china. Even as early as the Julie calls, Bob seemed to admit that Chris had little comprehension of the world and was unable and unwilling to hold down a job. Not that he pushed Chris too hard, he still massively accomodated his antics.

I am not convinced cutting down the internet would have been the appropriate move.

While a lot of the "bad stuff" in his life came through the internet, a lot of the things he enjoyed did too. And cutting him off from the internet would have really reduced his scope for a social or professional life.

In recent years he has used the internet to connect with the LGBT community. He has used it to keep in touch with "friends" like Anna. He has started a moderately successful eBay business. Yes he has been trolled, but I think Chris life without the internet consists of sitting in the hoard playing vidya and lego and only leaving the house for mundane errands. His life may not be that much more exciting than that now, but anything else he has comes through the internet.

I am not sure how informed his parents' decision to let him keep it was. I justify it by saying it does him good. They might have let him keep it because they didn't think it was worth the fight. Or because they didn't really understand the internet and how it affected him. Or because they thought he should be allowed to make some of his own decisions and mistakes. Or because they didn't give a shit. But I think it worked out for the best in the end.

Had a dream about OPL today. He was a senator or something and a friend and I had to interview him for a report. We went to his office and met his secretary. She was Filipino or something. She showed us around his office because he was out at a meeting and my friend got mad at me for believing it was really his office, because the government lies so obviously this was a fake office. That's the dream.

But has Chris gone back to editing the CWCki, or is it just some ween?
On the page for Barb, for example, there is a sentence about Chris moving out due to his mother slapping him, and it has been edited to state Chris never spooned with his mom.

Has this been confirmed or not?

What was Bob like as a parent? [vs. Barb]

To the extent Bob's parenting has been better received here, I think we can look to two big factors: (1) Bob seems to have tried to push Chris more into becoming a responsible adult, and (2) we know enough about Bob (his career, the record collection, some oddball quotes, etc.) to appreciate and/or project a likable personality, whereas Barb, as a person, is more of a cypher. ("Speak no ill of the dead" may be factor 3, but as I recall 1/2 were well in effect before his passing.)

This is not to say that Bob was perfect (although I am not personally troubled by the examples you listed, for the reasons others have stated). But with an extremely challenging parenting situation and scant information, Bob can get a lot of mileage out of only a few big parenting moves.

I never really got why Bob's been given a pass. He chose to marry Barb. He chose to stay with her. His other kids wouldn't even talk to him when he was dying (that can't be entirely Barb's fault). It was his idea to sue the school. He believed and invented conspiracy theories along with Charb. Despite his accomplishments and whatever else endeared him to Christorians, he had plenty of issues and was just as responsible for the way Chris turned out as Barb.

It's probably a ween but on the off chance it is Chris then lol
