Even if he gets harsher punishment that still results in getting released in a few years and not watched by others, he will probably believe prison is not bad and will feel secure enough to commit other deplorable acts. I kinda understand some a-logs hoping he gets killed in prison.

Ex convicts often say that prison is better than jail. Probably he felt like a luxury because of three factors:

1. He's in Protective Custody
2. Guards and staff are competent enough to watch him over
3. He has income for commissary

Take those three away and he'll end up in death row and the electric chair.

IIRC Barb wasn't living with Chris and Bob at the time which kinda makes looking for an older women role model. Maybe that's why Bob paid for them, to act like an older sister to Chris. But Chris being Chris saw it as a chance to get China or acting like a "normal" boy.
