Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

In the US we seem to do almost everything backwards. We don't design cities and towns properly so that they can be walked around on. Then we don't fund a public transportation system so everyone needs a car. So people who are old and practically blind still need a car and the government doesn't want to take away their drivers licenses because they vote. So now we have old people driving dangerously.

Then when someone is mentally ill, there aren't resources to send them to a long term care facility. Instead they might get baker acted for three days and turned back out onto the street. Or when the shit hits the fan they'll do something horrible where they'll get arrested and they go to jail for months like Chris has so far, or prison for years. Now even with all those problems maybe we could get social workers to help out the old people and mentally ill and whatnot. Well there aren't enough of those because they're not paid enough. Instead, the people in jails and prisons are used as a source of free or cheap labor and corporations like the Bob Barker Company and Aramark make tons of money selling all the stuff inmates need.

I'm not entirely sure where else I should go for this, so I'll just throw this out in the open along with a question. Recently, I've been writing letters to various prisoners (unrelated) for the holidays. Usually there's very little support for those who are incarcerated, regardless of whether they're guilty or innocent. So, oftentimes prisoners will end up feeling rather isolated and discontent, which increases their chances of reoffending. The nature of the letters I've thus far sent are religious in nature, as visiting the imprisoned is a work of mercy.

This leads me to my main point and question: I sent a letter to Chris for the holidays. I wrote to him primarily about the nature of prayer and his general circumstances in prison. I was not expecting him to write back at all, but lo and behold I managed to receive a reply from Chris. I'm a lurker at heart and not actively involved in the site itself; however, I feel an obligation to post the letter onto the site. The only issue is that I don't have the privileges to do that. So my question is if there's someone who has the ability to post threads who would be willing to share it onto the site? Or alternatively should I just dump the letter's contents in this thread so it can be reposted?

Again, I'm new and don't really understand how the infrastructure of the site works, nor who to contact for CWC related stuff specifically. If proof of some kind is needed, I have it. If there was a better place to post this, I apologize. I'm not really sure where else to go and I have an obligation to share this information with the rest of you.

Has anyone thought of the possibility Barb may not have been driving with insurance and may have been on the line for any damage done to the truck? Sure she came off worse but now we know she was at fault.

The insurance was probably on autopay so was probably still good. The Chandlers have been pretty good about keeping insurance since they tend to have so many accidents, both with the house and with their vehicles.

I made a list of pretty every single negative word or adjective to describe bad human traits or bahviour and pretty much all of them could apply to Chris , I think it’s pretty accurate, call me an A log but it’s hard to defend him after all he’s done. Feel free to point out any I’ve missed.

The most glaring issue with US mental health care is that to get help you either need to be able to seek and want it yourself, or have a loved one go above and beyond for you. Big issue when mental illness very often can alienate you from loved ones, and lack of insight into one's own disease is a key symptom of severe mental illness.. Terry Davis is a tragic example of this. Guy didn't think he was sick or needed help, family gave up on him. Homeless and dead within a year.

Worst thing is that many of these people could actually be productive members of society if they were forcibly committed for a ~4 week stay in a psych ward, properly medicated and followed up upon. I say this because this is how it works in literally every country that has functioning mental health care.

She retired and washed her hands of the Chandlers, according to Kiwis.

Nah, Chris' case will end in mid 2022. You don't get infinite continuances -- you eventually run out of justifications and the judge will flat out deny them. Extremely complex cases can take years, but Chris' case is only complex by virtue of being unusual, rather than having a lot of moving parts.

It could end as soon as February. It almost certainly will be finished by the one year anniversary. Chris is only arraigned on a misdemeanor charge, and a judge is not going to put up with a defendant being jailed for over a year on a misdemeanor. At that point he'll order the prosecution to either bring up felony charges, or release Chris. This will put pressure on both Chris' attorney and the prosecutor to finalize the best deal they can negotiate.

If they can't reach an agreement within a year, that means there's probably such a disagreement in terms that they will go to trial. While a trial could conceivably continue into 2023, that would mean the end of continuances at least. I give less than a 5% chance of a trial happening though, it's just not a win for anyone.

I wonder how Chris celebrated new years and his "birthday" in jail? Also known as CHRISTmas.
