I think that's because for a long time now people have been using what ever problem they have as a core if not defining part of there identity and have been told to be loud and proud of it rather than understanding it and learning to work around it.

That's part of a larger problem that needs to be addressed, we have moved from valuing some one for achievement or merit to valuing what labels we can attach to a person to judge there worth and give them a pass for acting like a idiot when some one upsets them or points out where they are wrong.

I doubt he has any idea what that actually means - he just repeats the phrase "without him, we wouldn't have a simple plastic funnel" the same way he repeats the same jokes over and over.
