Well the Idea Guys did make him create Bundychu so maybe they told him about how Ted Bundy escaped the courthouse that one time and that the basis of this rumor.

If Chris had actually escaped jail then 4chan and Twitter would be full of police and news reports of Chris escaping the courthouse, wanted posters, and people talking about the manhunt for Chris instead of greentext posts and photo-shopped pictures. Every time Chris has been in trouble with the law there is some kind of evidence that shows him getting arrested or going to court. If Chris had actually decided to go on the lam you can guarantee there would be a local TV segment reporting on an escaped prisoner or wannabe Tommy Lee Jones bounty hunters posting about the situation as they hunted down Chris.
