Talking about weeaboos MLP coincidentally has a similar formula* to the slice of life/iyashikei anime shows that attracts a similar audience. (Shows like Azumanga Daio or K-On or more recent shows like Dragon Maid or Yuru Yuri that directly panders to the lesbian fans which you see a lot of in the Brony fandom)

* An all female cast of stock characters (A smart one, a shy one, a sporty one, etc) who are all good friends and get up to inoffensive, feel good adventures with superficial levels of conflict that always gets resolved by the end of the episode.

It's deliberate. Lauren Faust is a huge weeb and pitched a show called Galaxy Girls to Hasbro in the first place, fairly obviously influenced by Sailor Moon and the like. They gave her ponies instead and then she turned it into a magical girl anime. And thus, horsefuckers were born.

Random question here.

Does Chris have enough self awareness to fully understand that his life from 2007 to now is very, very, abnormal? Like, everything since the internet became aware of his existence has been an experience that nobody else can say they've experienced as well.

Follow up, with all his money making schemes and begging campaigns wouldn't exploiting his life story at this point be another revenue to try and cash in?
I think Chris just doesn't get the world. Like, he sees other people with jobs and homes and families, and he knows that's normal, but he just doesn't see how he could have ever had any of that. He knows that people his age don't normally consume only children's entertainment and play with toys, but again, he doesn't really understand why not. And the trolls are just a total mystery to him.

I think he knows his life is completely abnormal, but as far as he can figure out, it's the world that's wrong.

You're close. Chris doesn't think his life is abnormal, he thinks it's incomplete. He knows he's entitled to a cushy generic non-descript "office job" where he can boss around cronies to produce Sonichu media and merchandise for him at the flick of a wrist, he knows he's entitled to a true and honest sweetheart, if only the TROLLS didn't constantly keep them away from him with their constant, nefarious schemes. He's entitled to all of these things, all he has to do is wait for them for fall into his lap. It never occurs to him how exactly people manage to get a good job or a loving spouse, because all his life he was handed things for no effort, so why are those any different?

Has Chris ever had a male buddy, someone as a kid to play video games against? Did he bond with any guys over Pokemon?

Constantly.

Well he's certainly managed his anxiety, for the time being. We'll see if he can keep floating on a valium cloud when Barb dies. For now, though, he just seems so self-confident and happy about his status in life. I assume his LoveQuest is still important to him, but there's not the desperation and obsessiveness of going to the mall every single day with an Attraction Sign and fine-tuning dating site profiles. Outwardly, he seems so mellow and optimistic. I guess he's got multiple irons in the fire, what with his cozying up to the voice artists, but he doesn't seem to be acting like the clock is ticking.

It's more that he's realized his old techniques don't work.

And he probably avoids thinking about it, since he doesn't have any backup plans either.

Of which Chris blessed with a serious case of acne in his comic just to make himself look better!
