I think it's just more of a matter of him simply not liking his body as opposed to there actually being a dissonance between what his brain thinks his body should be like. You're misinterpreting both Chris and what I had said about male competition. Chris does not exactly care about sex, he never really did. He made himself care about sex because that's what he thought was normal and acceptable and how he would be able to mature and become a man. Chris didn't see men as competing for sex, he saw men as competing for a girlfriend, which, in Chris' mind, means competing for a new mommy. The entire point of the lovequest was to replace Barb, to have someone work for him and supply him with a baby while he sat around the house all day, that was his explicit stated goal.

Also I love Marvin but you should take his advice with a grain of salt like everyone else here. He's right about many things but he isn't a messiah, and he has his own opinions about Chris' psyche that may or may not be accurate, just like the rest of us.

I'm going to disagree with you here. His "dysphoria" was nothing more than a way to attract women. He likely believed that, if he were to identify as a bisexual transgender woman, he'd appeal to lesbians, straight women, and bisexual women, all at the same time (no trannies, though). The self-inflicted taint wound, the subliminal frequency tracks, and the other means of becoming a woman were geared towards that purpose- and like @The Fool said, it was for the ultimate purpose of finding a replacement for Barb. I get he made Crystal (the sister) and Crystal (the daughter) as female copies of himself, which could fit the idea of him being dysphoric, but couldn't that also be him either A) fantasizing about the perfect woman, or B), Chris having a fetish of himself as a girl?

Usually he redefines himself whenever he feels a need to establish some form of comfort or sense of belonging; the love quest for someone to support him emotionally and financially, and the troonout for an overall community of generally accepting and non-judgemental people to give him asspats. Even if the homeless saga comes to fruition, somehow and someway, there will always be someone ready to shower him with kindness and praise for being such a brave autistic transgender schizophrenic e-celebrity celestial creator of Sonichu & Night Star.

I mean, you've kind of just described childhood; We all start out seeing ourselves as godlike beings and the manipulators of our reality, and then over time as we start attending school and becoming socialized with other children, we gradually learn that we're part of a larger, ever-changing dynamic which makes us realize that we're not as important as our parents made us believe. It's kind of like how some kids start off wanting to be a superhero, then president, then firefighter, then wanting to become as capable as their father, to wanting to finish a college degree, to wanting to get a full-time job, to wanting to leave the ghetto.

I'm not agreeing with Chris's current belief system, but he didn't experience the world the same way we did when we came of age. He's an outlier and has even been cited in a psychology textbook. It'll be fascinating to see actual, mainstream case-studies of his life in the years following his death.

That doesn't account for his loathing of his penis, which is a component of GD. He wore a strap around it to keep it covered, called it "ugly" while trying to convince Catherine to fuck him, and started listening to the Subliminal tracks to try to magic it away.

The theory also conflicts with how Chris has carried out the Love Quest - he's always gone about it in a very passive way, sitting around with a sign waiting for a woman to come to him while refusing to try to change himself. Going through the hoops of changing his gender identity, even in ways that don't directly involve the Love Quest, doesn't really fit with that.

I think if Chris had really built his trans identity entirely on trying to score a relationship, he'd have stopped at the crossdressing phase and gave up on it once it didn't get results. It's also been almost a decade of him doing this, yet we don't have a smoking gun convo where he says he's doing it just to get with a woman. I don't think he could be calculating enough and have the focus to keep up such an act for that long and without blabbing it to some troll.
