one of the 18th bday party pics has what looks like a Packard Bell PC with scanner on top of the tower, Borb also had a copy of AOL for Dummies, my guess is internet access was bundled with the phone or cable service

I've always found it kind of hilarious how much this picture of Chris, from a distance or if you squint a bit, resembles my former stepmom. :lol:

They probably used the Internet as another babysitter (like the TV). As long as Chris is occupied with the Internet, he's not bothering them.

Still, you'd think that they would have reconsidered this decision after Chris leaked the house tour video.

I suspect they aren't really aware of all the videos that Chris made. We know Chris as a crazy guy who makes stupid videos where he acts like a dumbass if you poke him with a stick. I don't think Bob and Barb were remotely aware of these videos.

Just the occasional one, like the house tour. Bob and Barb probably thought that was an anomaly. A particularly dangerous one of course, but probably not justification to take away the internet.

That's what I was thinking. The JULAY! video, Chris caught jacking it, The death threats, and all the other embarrassing moments. Someone had to tell his parents what he did on the computer. They were aware of Kacey and Julie being fake Sweethearts and didn't put their foot down.

Yea it's funny to think that if they never had internet we'd never be here in this situation. The fact they never took it away astounds me. My dad actually used the internet when I was younger, so it made sense that we had it. If I had ever done something as stupid as Chris, I'm sure he'd just have made sure I didn't have access to it anymore. Maybe they thought having the PC near the Kitchen out in the communal area would stop Chris from getting into trouble knowing they'd walk by any moment. I doubt they realized what having the PS3 connected to the internet would do in terms of allowing Chris to get into trouble. However I have to say it does seem that Chris no longer has computer access. Most of his videos and emails all say "from my iPhone". Pretty sure this is part of the reason we see less Chris content today.

Bob did have a interest in computing as I posted last page after he had retired there is a photo of him with the 1985 edition of "Your IBM PC made easy" back then that was prity much the standard tomb for anyone who had just got a PC and was wanting to learn how to use it properly rather than getting it for Visacalc and Games.

I agree that they where not aware of the volume of videos he recorded, at least at first.
But I have to question they didn't know the content, Chris was quite open with the massdebaiting and the ween factor. I think it just got to the point where Bob realized he couldn't put the breaks on this train an retreated into his music an other hobbies an Barb just didn't have a fuck to give like most of his life.

I guess they where not 100% aware of when he was filming videos as loud strange noises from his room where not a uncommon occurrence, he like any other 6 year old makes loud noises when they play with toy's and I am guessing unless it was a cry of "HELP!" they where prity much zoned out for it an thought / knew better than to ask questions about what he was up to.

Chris does have at least a computer.

Chris largely needs someone to tell him to go online and do stupid shit. If someone's not actively telling him to make videos, like we used to do before Bob died, he doesn't do it. Organized trolling ended, so Chris' time as an internet lolcow mostly died. He's online nowadays for the ebay money and to rant about blue arms.

Keep in mind though, the sex shit wasn't a huge part of his trolling. I mean, it was one of the funnier parts to us, but many, many Chris videos are him just yelling at his camera and throwing stuff around.

Like, I'm sure a ween sent them his nudes a few times over the years. But I don't think it's dumb that they didn't immediately finger the internet as a huge problem. They probably put it in the same category as Chris' blowup dolls. Chris is an adult, he can jerk off if he wants.

I think that is the key (the adult part, not the jerking off).

I think taking away the internet would be a complicated call for his parents, even if we were to give them perfect knowledge and the best of intentions.

Firstly, a lot of Chris' legitimate and fairly benign hobbies, like gaming, involve the internet. Even if the internet is not a neccessity, it enhances the experience. Taking the internet away from him would reduce his quality of life in that dimension. There are lots of things Chris did on the internet that he enjoyed, but did not feed the trolls. An argument can be made that cutting down the internet is overkill.

Secondly, Chris had doxed himself so quickly, so he was being trolled by phone and by mail. Shutting off the internet doesn't completely solve the problem.

Thirdly, if you have hopes that Chris is going to improve his life at any point, you have to hope that he can go on the internet without creating a catastrophe. If he is ever going to get a job, take some more classes, have a social life etc, he is probably going to need to spend a little time on the internet. I can see why a good parent would want to focus on correcting, but not eliminating, his internet use.

Fourthly, he is an adult. Yes he does have diminished capacity, but to a certain extent I think he needs to be allowed to make his own mistakes. We all criticize Barb for making him check in with her every hour when he is out. I completely agree with this criticism. And I would feel the same way to a certain extent if she actively kept him off the internet.

It's not that I don't think going on the internet has fucked with Chris a lot. And it's not that I don't see why a good parent might have considered taking it away from him. But I think there are lots of arguments against it.
 
I have a feeling that tommorow is gonna be an interisting day for Chris followers, aside that we are dangerously close of the second hearing of his court's case.
Remember that one April 1st where Chris vandalized the CWCki? Everybody believed it was an April Fool's joke first, when it was just an uncanny timing on Chris's part (and given his inability to deal with irony and sarcasm, i wonder if he even get the concept of April Fool's Day at all).
When discussing about Christian Weston Chandler, Poe's Law is in full effect. So brace ourselves for whatever dumb shit :stupid: from Chris can across come tommorow.
I expect either another FB tirade about Sonic's arms and Sega's responsability on the charges he faces, a fake FB post supposedly from Chris like this one: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/chris-discovers-brendaniel.8273/, or a ween making an april fool's prank on his FB and Chris stupidly taking the bait.
