Good morning fellow realityphiles. I was inspired to comment after reading an article on that pinnacle of 21st century aesthetics and technology: the Brazilian Butt Lift. It seems to be back in the news, with stories of regret, surgical complications, and social media peer pressure.
Now where have we heard all that before?
It’s galling to read articles like
this which make it plain how malign and dumb this body modification social contagion is. I say galling because of how they will happily position it as a stupid internet trend when they would
never dare to say the same about troonism, despite it being the exact same thing.
Social media trend? Check.
Rooted in misogynistic prescriptive views about the female body? Check.
Disgusting dangerous surgery peddled by surgeons of dubious moral standing? Check.
Barely regulated medical gray market with many operations performed in developing countries in order to avoid scrutiny? Check.
Unknown regret rate with social pressure to avoid admitting regret? Check.
Appropriates a superficial cosmetic aspect of a minoritized group in order to buy your way into that group? Check.
Costs a shitload of money and you end up looking like a kid built you out of play doh? Check.
Fuelled by hypersexualized pornitized media? Check.
Motive is fundamentally sexual despite heavy protestations that it’s just about being who you really are? Check.
Ultimate result is looking like a big ass? Check mate.
This is socially transmitted body dysmorphia all over again, and the only reason the media has the balls to tell the stark truth about BBLs is because the people with trans-butts don’t have a PR campaign to whitewash it like the troons do.
The biggest trick the TRAs pulled is the code of omertà they enforce on the media, in the name of human rights.
Pull the righteous mask off and it’s all just butt lifts.
